The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data release for The ichnology of White Sands (New Mexico): linear traces and human footprints, evidence of transport technology? Data release for The ichnology of White Sands (New Mexico): linear traces and human footprints, evidence of transport technology?
This dataset lists the values of experiments with modern travois. The abstract of the associated interpretive product describing the findings at the site is as follows: A travois is crafted from one or more wooden poles and is one of the simplest pre-historic vehicles. Although these devices likely played vital roles in the lives of ancient peoples, they have low preservation potential...
Acoustic telemetry and side-scan sonar counts used for modeling abundance of shortnose sturgeon in the Hudson River Acoustic telemetry and side-scan sonar counts used for modeling abundance of shortnose sturgeon in the Hudson River
Dataset includes the number of shortnose sturgeon that were detected via acoustic telemetry and side-scan sonar in the Hudson River on a series of survey dates from 2021 to 2023.
Walrus Haulout Outlines Apparent from Aerial Survey Images Collected Near Point Lay, Alaska Walrus Haulout Outlines Apparent from Aerial Survey Images Collected Near Point Lay, Alaska
This dataset provides walrus haulout group outlines in a shapefile format and haulout area sizes in csv format. These data are based on visual interpretation of imagery from aerial surveys by a small uncrewed aerial system (sUAS) operated by the U.S. Geological Survey Alaska Science Center, over large groups of walruses resting onshore near Point Lay, Alaska during September of 2024 and...
USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Greater Caspian Area: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Greater Caspian Area: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables
This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data, and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the Greater Caspian area. The assessment unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The assessment...

Soil data includes carbon (total, organic, mineral-associated, particulate-organic) and texture. Bulk density data includes bulk density values used to calculate carbon stocks. Plant data includes microsite coverage percents and sagebrush demographics. Data is from uninvaded and cheatgrass invaded points near Grand Junction, Colorado and Rock Springs, Wyoming in October and November 2023...
Ground-based lidar data of the southeast face of El Capitan, Yosemite National Park, California, May 4, 2022 Ground-based lidar data of the southeast face of El Capitan, Yosemite National Park, California, May 4, 2022
We collected two ground-based (terrestrial) lidar scans of the southeast face of El Capitan cliff, located in Yosemite National Park, California. El Capitan is one of several iconic granitic cliffs in Yosemite and rises approximately 1000 meters above the floor of Yosemite Valley. The scans were collected from the same location and from a single vantage point on the edge of El Capitan...
Survival of Greater Sage-Grouse Nests and Broods Following Translocation in California, Wyoming, and North Dakota, 2002 - 2019 Survival of Greater Sage-Grouse Nests and Broods Following Translocation in California, Wyoming, and North Dakota, 2002 - 2019
These tables provide observations of sage-grouse, both translocated and not, during the nesting and brooding phases. With respect to nests we include observations of clutch size, egg hatchability, and adult survival during this period. For the brooding period we include both adult and chick survival as well as initial and final brood size. Lastly, we include peak male counts at leks for...

Assessment of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation in Lake Michigan Using Down-Looking AUV-Collected Imagery Assessment of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation in Lake Michigan Using Down-Looking AUV-Collected Imagery
This dataset comprises in situ images of benthic algae collected by an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in Lake Michigan during August and September 2020. The images were annotated, or labeled, to identify specific features for use in machine learning and algorithm development, specifically to train and validate an algorithm for the automated identification and assessment of submerged...
Timing of coral (Swiftia exserta) spawning in U.S.G.S. Wetland and Aquatic Research Center, Gainesville, FL Timing of coral (Swiftia exserta) spawning in U.S.G.S. Wetland and Aquatic Research Center, Gainesville, FL
The 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill injured mesophotic and deep-sea environments over a vast area. In order to restore the mesophotic and deep-sea coral species impacted by the spill, information on fundamental ecosystem processes such as reproduction is needed. During expeditions in 2021 and 2022, fragments of the mesophotic octocoral Swiftia exserta were collected from the northern...
