Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

A network of eight naturalized streamflow reconstructions for the Milk and St Mary Rivers spanning years 1017 - 1998 CE A network of eight naturalized streamflow reconstructions for the Milk and St Mary Rivers spanning years 1017 - 1998 CE

Paleohydrologic records provide a valuable perspective on the variability of streamflow and hydroclimate that is critical for water resource planning and placing present day and future conditions into a long-term context. Until now, key insights gained from streamflow reconstructions in the other river basins across the Western U.S. have been lacking in the Milk and St. Mary River Basin...

Catch and Effort Data for Cisco and Lake Whitefish Commercial Gill Net Fisheries in State of Michigan Waters of Lakes Superior, Michigan, and Huron During 1929-1970 Catch and Effort Data for Cisco and Lake Whitefish Commercial Gill Net Fisheries in State of Michigan Waters of Lakes Superior, Michigan, and Huron During 1929-1970

This data release presents catch and effort data for Cisco Coregonus artedi and Lake Whitefish Coregonus clupeaformis commercial gill net fisheries in State of Michigan waters of Lakes Superior, Michigan, and Huron during 1929-1970. The data were used to determine if Cisco and Lake Whitefish relative abundance (commercial gill net catch per effort) were correlated (positive and negative)...

Idealized COAWST numerical model for testing marsh wave thrust and lateral retreat dynamics routines Idealized COAWST numerical model for testing marsh wave thrust and lateral retreat dynamics routines

There are two idealized domains developed in this work to test the marsh dynamics in the COAWST modeling framework. 1. First idealized domain is to test and verify the lateral thrust calculations. 2. Second idealized domain is to test the implementation of lateral retreat formulations.

COAWST model of Barnegat Bay creeks to demonstrate marsh dynamics COAWST model of Barnegat Bay creeks to demonstrate marsh dynamics

The COAWST (Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport) modeling framework was extended to add two key processes that affect marshes, erosion due to lateral wave thrust (LWT) and vertical accretion due to biomass productivity. The testing of the combined effects of integrating these two processes was done by modeling marsh complexes within Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and the...

Random forest regression model and prediction rasters of fluoride in groundwater in basin-fill aquifers of western United States Random forest regression model and prediction rasters of fluoride in groundwater in basin-fill aquifers of western United States

A random forest regression (RFR) model was developed to predict groundwater fluoride concentrations in four western United Stated principal aquifers - California Coastal basin-fill aquifers, Central Valley aquifer system, Basin and Range basin-fill aquifers, and the Rio Grande aquifer system. The selected basin-fill aquifers are a vital resource for drinking-water supplies. The RFR model...

Favorability of environmental conditions for coral reefs in Guam and American Samoa under multiple climate scenarios Favorability of environmental conditions for coral reefs in Guam and American Samoa under multiple climate scenarios

This dataset consists of raster geotiff outputs of relative environmental favorability for coral growth and survival in the United States territories of Guam and American Samoa across 3 climate scenarios: Present, Intermediate Emissions (Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5), and Worst Case Emissions (Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5). These datasets were generated from a...

Total organic carbon and pyrolysis analysis data for the U.S. Geological Survey Alcova AR-1-13 core hole, Natrona County, Wyoming Total organic carbon and pyrolysis analysis data for the U.S. Geological Survey Alcova AR-1-13 core hole, Natrona County, Wyoming

In 2013 the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) drilled a continuous core in the southeastern part of the Wind River Basin, Wyoming to evaluate the source rock potential of the Lower and lowermost Upper Cretaceous marine shales . The well, named the Alcova Reservoir AR-1-13, located on the northeast flank of the Alcova anticline was spud in the lower part of the Frontier Formation and ended in...

2018 Eastern Lake Erie Shoreline 4-band orthophotos and mosaics 2018 Eastern Lake Erie Shoreline 4-band orthophotos and mosaics

High-resolution digital aerial imagery was collected on August 24, 2018, with an 80-megapixel Phase One iXU-R 180 natural color aerial camera co-mounted with a Phase One iXU-RS 160 achromatic aerial camera. Software co-registers the simultaneously collected images to create 4-band imagery that can be displayed in either true color (RGB) or color-infrared (CIR) format. The camera system...

Data for Machine Learning Predictions of Nitrate in Groundwater Used for Drinking Supply in the Conterminous United States Data for Machine Learning Predictions of Nitrate in Groundwater Used for Drinking Supply in the Conterminous United States

A three-dimensional extreme gradient boosting (XGB) machine learning model was developed to predict the distribution of nitrate in groundwater across the conterminous United States (CONUS). Nitrate was predicted at a 1-square-kilometer (km) resolution for two drinking water zones, each of variable depth, one for domestic supply and one for public supply. The model used measured nitrate

An updated X-ray diffractogram library of geologic materials An updated X-ray diffractogram library of geologic materials

The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern library presented here is intended for qualitative or quantitative mineralogical analysis of geologic materials. The original collection of 169 reference diffractograms was released by Eberl (2003) as a part of RockJock, a USGS program for quantitative analysis of mineralogy, which included patterns of many of the major rock-forming minerals needed to...

Concentration of chemical constituents in lake sediments from selected coring locations on Lake Lanier, Georgia, May 2018 Concentration of chemical constituents in lake sediments from selected coring locations on Lake Lanier, Georgia, May 2018

The data herein were collected in support of a larger study in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on the potential impacts of on-site waste water treatment (septic systems) on Lake Lanier water quality. Until recently, a missing component in this assessment was the inclusion of historical sediment and associated nutrient accumulation data from the lake to place results in a broader context. To...

Water table depth, soil moisture, and meteorological data from Panola Mountain Research Watershed, 2017 - 2020 Water table depth, soil moisture, and meteorological data from Panola Mountain Research Watershed, 2017 - 2020

These data represent time-series of water table depth from nine monitoring wells, soil moisture from three depths at a single monitoring location, and meteorological data from a weather station at the Panola Mountain Research Watershed (PMRW) in Rockdale County Georgia. Water-level data were logged at a 5 minute interval. In total, the data span from April 2017 to April 2020 but some...
