Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data release of geochemistry and geochronology for Proterozoic rocks in southwestern Colorado and rocks from drill core from Colorado, North Dakota, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska Data release of geochemistry and geochronology for Proterozoic rocks in southwestern Colorado and rocks from drill core from Colorado, North Dakota, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides whole rock major, minor, and trace element geochemical data, mineral chemistry, and monazite and xenotime geochronology for Proterozoic rocks in the Needle Mountains of southwestern Colorado and for Proterozoic rocks sampled from drill cores from Colorado, North Dakota, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska. Samples from the...

Data release for Ice and ocean constraints on early human migrations into North America along the Pacific coast Data release for Ice and ocean constraints on early human migrations into North America along the Pacific coast

Founding populations of the first Americans likely occupied parts of Beringia during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) (1). The timing, pathways, and modes of their southward transit remain unknown, but blockage of the interior route by North American ice sheets between ~26-14 cal kyr BP (ka) favors a coastal route during this period. Using models and paleoceanographic data from the North...

aqtsra, Utilities for preprocessing raw and approved unit-value time-series hydrometeorological data before statistical endeavors aqtsra, Utilities for preprocessing raw and approved unit-value time-series hydrometeorological data before statistical endeavors

The aqtsra package in the R language provides a light-weight utility for merging U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System (NWIS) flat-file tables of raw and approved unit-value time-series data from the AQUARIUS Time-Series software. Provision is made for parsing time stamps, insertion of the day fraction into the year, and days since last site visit among other limited...

Flood-frequency of rural, non-tidal streams in Louisiana and parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas, 1877-2016 Flood-frequency of rural, non-tidal streams in Louisiana and parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas, 1877-2016

The dataset includes flood-frequency data and related files for 211 streamgages operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Louisiana and parts of the surrounding states of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas as well as assembled explanatory variables (physical, climatic, and land-use characteristics of the basins). The data in this release were used in generalized least-squares (GLS )

Little Dry Creek and Cottonwood Creek Sediment Transport Data, 2012-2018, San Joaquin Watershed in the California Central Valley Little Dry Creek and Cottonwood Creek Sediment Transport Data, 2012-2018, San Joaquin Watershed in the California Central Valley

Two tributary watersheds¬ Cottonwood Creek and Little Dry Creek¬ to the greater San Joaquin watershed, in California’s Central Valley were assessed for sediment and flow dynamics, between water years (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30) 2011 and 2019. The two systems deliver suspended sediment to the San Joaquin River below Friant Dam, California. Because these two creeks are directly down river of...

Bulk Chemistry and X-ray Diffraction Results from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash Bulk Chemistry and X-ray Diffraction Results from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash

This data release contains the bulk chemistry and x-ray diffraction results of unreacted Alaskan stoker-boiler fly ash. X-ray diffraction results from the solid phase residuals of leaching experiments with the same fly ash are reported. The leaching experiments were performed with either 18 mega-ohm or simulated rainwater for up to 90 days and XRD was performed on solid phase residuals...

Bulk Chemistry Data from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash Bulk Chemistry Data from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash

This dataset contains bulk chemical data for fly ash samples from the Atkinson Heat and Power Plant in Fairbanks, AK and National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) Standard Reference Materials (SRM) used for quality assurance and quality control.

X-ray Diffraction Results from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash X-ray Diffraction Results from Alaskan Stoker-Boiler Fly Ash

This dataset contains X-ray diffraction (XRD) results for coal samples from the Usibelli Coal Mine and fly ash samples from the Atkinson Heat and Power Plant in Fairbanks, AK. Additionally, X-ray diffraction results from the solid phase residuals of leaching experiments with the same fly ash are reported. The leaching experiments were performed with either 18 mgea-ohm or simulated...

Imagery and meteorological data from April 2021 to December 2021, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona Imagery and meteorological data from April 2021 to December 2021, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona

Grand Falls dune field (GFDF) is located on the Navajo Nation, ~70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ. This active dune field displays a range of morphologies, including barchans, smaller dunes, and ripples, and is bimodal in composition. The felsic component is likely derived from the Little Colorado River, and the mafic component (basaltic grains) is locally sourced from nearby cinder cones [1]...

A Lithostratigraphic Analysis of the Meteor Crater Ejecta Blanket: Measurements, Assigned Units, and Unit Thickness (ver. 2.0, December 2025) A Lithostratigraphic Analysis of the Meteor Crater Ejecta Blanket: Measurements, Assigned Units, and Unit Thickness (ver. 2.0, December 2025)

Current models do not sufficiently explain target rock-projectile mixing and ejecta blanket formation for small impact craters (i.e., less than 2km diameter). For example, due to the size of Meteor Crater and the low-velocity at which materials were excavated from the transient crater, the extent of target rock-projectile mixing is expected to be minor. However, based on drilling notes...

Maps of early season invasive grasses and hot spots in the Mojave Ecoregion from 2009-2020 Maps of early season invasive grasses and hot spots in the Mojave Ecoregion from 2009-2020

Maps of invasive annual grasses were created using multi-season Landsat imagery over a 12 years period (2009-2020), and validated using an extensive network of plot data. Annual maps were used to identify persistent and productive populations of invasive annual grass, called hot spots, across entire Mojave Desert ecoregion. The data provided include a 12 band raster geospatial data file...

Geothermal resource favorability: select features and predictions for the western United States curated for DOI 10.1016/j.geothermics.2023.102662 Geothermal resource favorability: select features and predictions for the western United States curated for DOI 10.1016/j.geothermics.2023.102662

The data contained herein are five input features (i.e., heat flow, distance to the nearest quaternary fault, distance to the nearest quaternary magma body, seismic event density, maximum horizontal stress) and labels (i.e., where known geothermal systems have been identified) from Williams and DeAngelo (2008) and nine favorability maps from Mordensky et al. (2023). The favorability maps...
