Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023, version 1.0 Earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023, version 1.0

This Data Release contains preliminary versions of two related databases: 1) A fault sections database ("NSHM2023_FaultSections_v1"), which depicts the geometry of faults capable of hosting independent earthquakes, and 2) An earthquake geology site information database ("NSHM2023_EQGeoDB_v1"), which contains fault slip-rate constraints at points. These databases were prepared in...

Regional flood skew for parts of the mid-Atlantic region (hydrologic unit 02) in eastern New York and Pennsylvania Regional flood skew for parts of the mid-Atlantic region (hydrologic unit 02) in eastern New York and Pennsylvania

This data release contains annual peak-flow data through the 2013 water year, specification and output files from flood-frequency analysis of the annual peak-flow data in USGS PeakFQ software, a GIS shapefile of the basin polygons with attributes of site information, basin characteristics, results of flood-frequency analysis, and results of B-WLS/B-GLS analysis of skewness of the annual...

Greenhouse observations of plant herbivore interactions on Lepidium draba to test effects of ontogenic variability Greenhouse observations of plant herbivore interactions on Lepidium draba to test effects of ontogenic variability

Data were collected from an experimental greenhouse study in which Lepidium draba plants were grown from root cuttings to create plants at different ontogenic stages. Plants were arranged in mixed-age and single-age stands and exposed to the Lepidopteran herbivore, diamondback moth caterpillars. The success (biomass gain and surivival) of herbivores, the amount of feeding, and the growth...

Seine Collection Data Along the Michigan Shoreline of the St. Clair-Detroit River System Seine Collection Data Along the Michigan Shoreline of the St. Clair-Detroit River System

These data contain counts of fish species collected with a 1.83 m x 9.14 m bag seine constructed of 1.6 mm Delta nylon mesh. When permitted, five consecutive 15.25 m hauls were made parallel to the shoreline. Sites with smaller shorelines were sampled to the greatest extent possible and distance recorded. The seine was pulled in the upstream direction to allow the net to stay open during...

2020 Update to the Quaternary Fault and Fold Database for Washington State 2020 Update to the Quaternary Fault and Fold Database for Washington State

This release is an update to the online "Quaternary fault and fold database" for Washington State. The online database was last updated for Washington in 2014 – this 2020 update includes newly identified and modified traces and geometries for on-shore faults gleaned from new peer-reviewed studies and mapping of active faults within the state of Washington. These data contain lines...

Volcanic plume heights from the summit of Kilauea Volcano, Hawai'i Volcanic plume heights from the summit of Kilauea Volcano, Hawai'i

This data release provides volcanic plume heights from the summit of Kilauea Volcano for 2008-2015, and during the eruptive events of 2018. For 2018, a Secacam Wild Vision Full HD camera with a 7mm focal length was located at 1717 m elevation approximately 15 m south of the Mauna Loa Strip Road within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, 19.475843degreesN, 155.363560degreesW (WGS84). The...

Zooplankton of the St. Clair-Detroit River System, 2012-2014 (ver. 1.2, February 2021) Zooplankton of the St. Clair-Detroit River System, 2012-2014 (ver. 1.2, February 2021)

Crustacean zooplankton were collected, enumerated, identified, and measured within the St. Clair-Detroit River System (SCDRS). Collections were made using a 0.5 m diameter 153 um zooplankton net. Nets were lowered to about 0.5 m from bottom depth and retrieved. Nets were utilized with a General Oceanics flowmeter to calculate the distance the net traveled. At sites of collection, both...

Climate and stage observations and hydrologic model results for Sinking Pond at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Tennessee Climate and stage observations and hydrologic model results for Sinking Pond at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Tennessee

This data release includes data-processing scripts, data products, and associated metadata for a study to recalibrate a hydrologic model for Sinking Pond, a 35-hectare seasonally flooded karst depression wetland located at Arnold Engineering Development Complex near Manchester, Tennessee. A hydrologic model for Sinking Pond was originally published by Wolfe and others (2004). That...

2018 Emiquon and Spunky Bottoms Preserves, 4-Band Mosaics 2018 Emiquon and Spunky Bottoms Preserves, 4-Band Mosaics

This mosaic was created using high-resolution aerial imagery collected on September 14, 2018 with a Phase One iXU-R 180 aerial camera co-mounted with a Phase One iXU-RS 160 Achromatic camera. The raw image files from the two cameras are combined to create 4-band imagery. The mission was flown at approximately 1,2000 meters above ground level resulting in a ground sample distance of 0.15...

Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging Topographic Survey Data for Two Recreation Areas Near Blue Mountain Lake and Nimrod Lake, Arkansas, March 2020 Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging Topographic Survey Data for Two Recreation Areas Near Blue Mountain Lake and Nimrod Lake, Arkansas, March 2020

The U.S. Geological Survey collected topographic data in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist in the management of two recreation areas at Blue Mountain Lake and near Nimrod Lake in Arkansas. Data were collected March 3-4, 2020 using terrestrial light detection and ranging (T-lidar) surveying equipment, Global navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveying equipment...

Object-Based Image Analysis Detection of Aquatic Vegetation, Lake Erie, 2018 Object-Based Image Analysis Detection of Aquatic Vegetation, Lake Erie, 2018

The USGS developed the second in a series of informative spatial distribution datasets of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in Lake Erie. The second dataset was developed by object-based image analysis of high-resolution imagery (US waters less than 6 meters deep) collected during peak biomass in 2018 to allow assessments of changes in SAV distribution. Assessing SAV abundance may...
