Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

2001 Upper Mississippi River Pool 8 Rake Study Data Set. 2001 Upper Mississippi River Pool 8 Rake Study Data Set.
The Yin et al. 2000 rake method is used by researchers in the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program to estimate the distribution of submersed aquatic vegetation on the Upper Mississippi River System. Biomass data were collected in 2001 to assess if the Yin et al. 2000 method could be used to estimate biomass based on the rake density ratings. Sediment samples also were collected to...
Counts and Abdominal Profile Indices of Wintering Emperor Geese (Anser canagicus) at Three Islands in Alaska, 2003 and 2015-2017 Counts and Abdominal Profile Indices of Wintering Emperor Geese (Anser canagicus) at Three Islands in Alaska, 2003 and 2015-2017
These data are in two tables related to surveys conducted on wintering Emperor Geese in Alaska. Surveys counting the number of wintering Emperor Geese were conducted on Shemya Island in 2003 and 2016, and on Adak Island in 2016-2017. Data on abdominal profile indices (body condition) of Emperor Geese were collected on Shemya Island in 2016, on Adak Island in 2016-2017, and on Kodiak...
Cyanobacterial toxin effects on inflammatory response of human toll-like receptors (TLRs) Cyanobacterial toxin effects on inflammatory response of human toll-like receptors (TLRs)
Various stressors including temperature, environmental chemicals and toxins can have profound impacts on immunity to pathogens. It is believed that increased eutrophication near rivers and lakes coupled with climate change are predicted to lead to increased algal blooms. Currently, the effects of cyanobacterial toxins on disease resistance in mammals is a largely unexplored area of...
Nimz Ranch Tie Channel Velocity Mapping and Discharge Measurements, Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, ID Nimz Ranch Tie Channel Velocity Mapping and Discharge Measurements, Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, ID
Discharge measurements and velocity mapping surveys were completed at select tie channels located at Nimz Ranch, on the main-stem Kootenai River. Tie channels convey water and sediments between the main river channel and river floodplain waterbodies. The velocity mapping surveys are used to document how the tie channels interact with the main-stem Kootenai River. Similar surveys will be...
Copper River and Knik River Bathymetric Surveys at Select Alaska Highway Bridges near Flag Point and Butte, Alaska, 2020 Copper River and Knik River Bathymetric Surveys at Select Alaska Highway Bridges near Flag Point and Butte, Alaska, 2020
In 2020, the Alaska Science Center and the Idaho Water Science Center conducted bathymetric surveys at three highway bridge structures. The bridge structures (NBI 331 and 1187) at Flag Point near Cordova, AK are located on Alaska State Route 10 (commonly referred to as the Copper River Highway). Bridge structure NBI 539 on the Knik River is located on the Old Glenn Hwy near Butte, AK...
Hydrologic and soil data associated with selected vacant deconstruction lots in St. Louis, Missouri, 2018-2020 Hydrologic and soil data associated with selected vacant deconstruction lots in St. Louis, Missouri, 2018-2020
As the urban landscape and municipal infrastructure in U.S. cities changes in response to socio-economic conditions, so does the manner in which water cycles through these cities. The modulation of hydrologic processes (e.g., runoff, infiltration, evapotranspiration) by land use and land cover has implications for resilience, sustainability, and optimizing municipal service functions...
Average well color development data for water samples from six locations within the historic section of Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky Average well color development data for water samples from six locations within the historic section of Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky
Water samples were collected from six cave locations where Actinobacterial mats appeared to be plentiful. Community-level physiological capabilities were evaluated using Biolog-Ecolog plates inoculated with cave water dosed with 0 or 0.10 milligrams per liter (mg/L) of erythromycin. The data were transformed into average well color development (AWCD). The transformation is done by...
DSWEmod surface water map composites generated from daily MODIS images - California DSWEmod surface water map composites generated from daily MODIS images - California
USGS researchers with the Patterns in the Landscape ? Analyses of Cause and Effect (PLACE) project are releasing a collection of high-frequency surface water map composites derived from daily Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery. Using Google Earth Engine, the team developed customized image processing steps and adapted the Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) to...
Arena trial breach attempts and morphometric data of brown treesnakes and rats, Guam, 2019-2020 Arena trial breach attempts and morphometric data of brown treesnakes and rats, Guam, 2019-2020
There are two datasets included in this entry. The "morph" dataset contains 6 columns of data on brown treesnakes and rats collected prior to and during arena trials for trialing fencing material for multispecies barrier construction. The "trials" dataset includes 25 columns of brown treesnake and rat data collected prior to, during, and after arena trials. There are four data files...
Serum Urea and Creatinine Levels of Spring-Caught Polar Bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Southern Beaufort and Chukchi Seas Serum Urea and Creatinine Levels of Spring-Caught Polar Bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Southern Beaufort and Chukchi Seas
These data are serum urea nitrogen and creatinine levels for polar bears captured in the southern Beaufort Sea 1983-2016 and the Chukchi Sea 1987-1993 and 2008-2017. The dataset includes relevant information about the bears that were captured including the latitude and longitude of their capture location, capture date, age class and sex, the age and number of cubs accompanying an adult...
Hydrodynamic and sediment transport data from San Pablo Bay and Grizzly Bay, California, 2019 Hydrodynamic and sediment transport data from San Pablo Bay and Grizzly Bay, California, 2019
The U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center collected hydrodynamic and sediment-transport data at shallow water sites in San Pablo Bay and Grizzly Bay, in northern San Francisco Bay between June and November 2019. The data were collected to determine hydrodynamic forcing, bed roughness, suspended-sediment concentration, and physical properties of the sediment bed...
Mouse predation on Laysan albatross Mouse predation on Laysan albatross
Invasive rodents on islands have adverse impacts on native birds in island ecosystems, and rats are the most common culprits. Recently, house mice (Mus musculus) in the South Atlantic were found preying on three species of albatross chicks. Here, we show that house mice can also prey on nesting adult Laysan albatross (Phoebastrea immutabilis) on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge (USA...
