Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Salvinia/weevil case study: Using drones to monitor weevil propagation in Salvinia aquatics (ver. 2.0, August 2023) Salvinia/weevil case study: Using drones to monitor weevil propagation in Salvinia aquatics (ver. 2.0, August 2023)

During summer months, coastal Louisiana is plagued with floating aquatics that fill and block canals and small waterways causing trouble for boaters. This floating aquatic starts growing in the spring and dies off in late summer and early winter months. One natural predator of the Salvinia sp is the weevil that forages on the Salvinia and causes premature die-off. These weevils do exist...

Partitioning of six pyrethroid insecticides at varying salinities Partitioning of six pyrethroid insecticides at varying salinities

To determine aqueous pyrethroid partitioning across a salinity gradient 20 mL Pyrex beakers were filled with 8 mL of deionized water at varying salinities (0, 0.5, 2, 6 ppt). Salinity was adjusted using a 10 ppt stock solution (made by diluting Instant Ocean into deionized water). The water samples were spiked with pyrethroids (bifenthrin, cyhalothrin, cyfluthrin, cypermethrin...

Data for Dust deposited on snow cover in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, 2011-2016: Compositional variability bearing on snow-melt effects Data for Dust deposited on snow cover in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, 2011-2016: Compositional variability bearing on snow-melt effects

Light-absorbing particles in atmospheric dust deposited on snow cover (dust-on-snow, DOS) diminish albedo and accelerate the timing and rate of snow melt. Identification of these particles and their effects are relevant to snow-radiation modeling and water-resource management. Laboratory-measured reflectance of DOS samples from the San Juan Mountains (USA) were compared with DOS mass...

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, California and Nevada Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, California and Nevada

A high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, parts of California and Nevada was flown by EDCON-PRJ, Inc. from December 13, 2019 to March 21, 2020. The high-resolution fixed-wing survey was flown at a flightline spacing of 200 m, an azimuth of 70 degrees, a nominal elevation above ground of 100 m, and consists of about 17,277 line-kilometers...

USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project-Michigan Basin Province, Collingwood-Utica Assessment Unit Boundaries and Assessment Input Data Forms USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project-Michigan Basin Province, Collingwood-Utica Assessment Unit Boundaries and Assessment Input Data Forms

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of continuous oil and gas resources in the Ordovician Collingwood Shale and Utica Shale formations in the Michigan Basin province. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit...

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of continuous oil and gas resources in the Delle Phosphatic Member of the Mississippian Woodman Formation, western Utah, eastern Nevada and southeastern Idaho. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas...

Temporal Viral Viability Data from Avian Influenza A Viruses Maintained in North American Wetlands Under Experimental and Environmental Conditions Temporal Viral Viability Data from Avian Influenza A Viruses Maintained in North American Wetlands Under Experimental and Environmental Conditions

Data sets containing: (1) sample collection and influenza A virus (IAV) screening information for wild ducks, (2) water temperature data for six North American wetlands, (3) water quality measurement from those wetlands, (4) laboratory-based study of viral viability using Minnesota wetland water, (5) naive mallards challenged experimentally with IAVs identified from the field experiment...

Data on gall wasp abundance and biomass on valley oak and blue oak trees in California Data on gall wasp abundance and biomass on valley oak and blue oak trees in California

Gall abundance and biomass was recorded on marked valley oak and blue oak individuals throughout California. Galls, mostly caused by cynipid gall wasps, were identified to species. Sampling effort per tree was recorded as the number of leaves searched for gall wasps. Leaves were taken from two branches per tree using pole pruners, and total galls per tree were summed in each observation...

Estimated Groundwater Withdrawals from Principal Aquifers in the United States--County Level Data for 2015 Estimated Groundwater Withdrawals from Principal Aquifers in the United States--County Level Data for 2015

This dataset contains estimates of water withdrawals from 66 principal aquifers and "other" non-principal aquifers during 2015 for various categories of use in each county or county equivalent in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) National Water Use Science Project is responsible for compiling and disseminating the Nation's...

Water-Quality, Bed-Sediment, and Invertebrate Tissue Trace Element Concentrations for Tributaries in the Clark Fork Basin, Montana, October 2017 - September 2018 Water-Quality, Bed-Sediment, and Invertebrate Tissue Trace Element Concentrations for Tributaries in the Clark Fork Basin, Montana, October 2017 - September 2018

Water, bed sediment, and biota were sampled in selected streams from Butte to near Missoula, Montana, as part of a monitoring program in the upper Clark Fork Basin of western Montana. The sampling program was led by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Land-use and water demand projections (2012 to 2065) under different scenarios of environmental change for North Carolina, South Carolina, and coastal Georgia Land-use and water demand projections (2012 to 2065) under different scenarios of environmental change for North Carolina, South Carolina, and coastal Georgia

Urban growth and climate change together complicate planning efforts meant to adapt to increasingly scarce water supplies. Several studies have shown the impacts of urban planning and climate change separately, but little attention has been given to their combined impact on long-term urban water demand forecasting. Here we coupled land and climate change projections with empirically...
