Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Permeameter test results on open-graded friction course pavement on Interstate 95 in Needham, Massachusetts, 2018-2025 Permeameter test results on open-graded friction course pavement on Interstate 95 in Needham, Massachusetts, 2018-2025

Open-graded friction course (OGFC) pavement is a layer of porous asphalt spread over the surface of impervious dense-graded hot-mix asphalt that is traditionally used as the wearing surface in Massachusetts. Benefits of OGFC pavement include noise reduction, less vehicular spray, hydroplaning, and surface reflectivity, and often provides measurable improvements in concentrations of...

Data supporting an integrated approach to decoding the paleoenvironmental and diagenetic signatures of ancient phosphorites Data supporting an integrated approach to decoding the paleoenvironmental and diagenetic signatures of ancient phosphorites

Phosphorites are significant geological deposits that serve as key archives of past marine productivity, biogeochemical cycling, and sedimentary processes, as well as critical reservoirs of phosphorus, an essential element for global agriculture. Herein we investigate Late Cretaceous phosphorite deposition in Israel, which occurred in an extensive phosphorite belt spanning from Turkey to...

Geochemical Data for Mercury and Other Constituents in Shallow Sediment and Porewater from Clear Lake, Lake County, California Geochemical Data for Mercury and Other Constituents in Shallow Sediment and Porewater from Clear Lake, Lake County, California

Clear Lake, located in Lake County, California, is impacted by mercury contamination associated with the historic Sulfur Bank mercury mine, which is adjacent to the lake’s eastern shore / Oaks Arm region. As part of a larger study designed to better understand the biogeochemical cycling of mercury in Clear Lake, shallow sediment (top 0-2 cm or 0-4 cm) was sampled from the three major...

Near Surface Spatial Water Quality Data Matched with Satellite Imagery and Discrete Phytoplankton Data in the Lower Hudson River New York, 2021-2023 Near Surface Spatial Water Quality Data Matched with Satellite Imagery and Discrete Phytoplankton Data in the Lower Hudson River New York, 2021-2023

This data release contains phytoplankton, water-quality, and satellite data from thirteen surveys along the lower Hudson River, extending from Yonkers to Troy, New York. Data were collected between August 2021 and October 2023. These surveys included continuous water-quality measurements collected at 10-second intervals using a multiparameter sonde deployed in a boat-mounted flow-through...

Data associated with the national assessment of potential average annualized losses from tsunamis in the United States Data associated with the national assessment of potential average annualized losses from tsunamis in the United States

Data tables and data references supporting the journal article titled: "Estimated average annualized losses from potential building damage and fatalities due to earthquake-generated tsunamis in the United States." Earthquake-generated tsunamis represent substantial economic threats to states and territories in the United States (U.S.), but we are unaware of any effort to quantify...

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, west central Utah, 2023-2024 Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, west central Utah, 2023-2024

This data release provides digital flight-line and gridded data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over a part of west central Utah. The survey was acquired as part of the UGSS Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (Earth MRI) to improve our understanding of the fundamental geologic framework of the region with applications to evaluating natural resources and...

Geospatial data in support of structured decision making for northeast coastal parks Geospatial data in support of structured decision making for northeast coastal parks

Salt marshes provide a range of ecosystem services, including storm protection, recreation, and commercial fishery habitat provision. The National Park Service (NPS) aims to preserve and protect salt marshes in order to achieve multiple objectives which address their mission: to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of their publicly held lands. Ongoing...

Compositions of ash, soil, sediment, water, and biota after the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Wildfire, Santa Cruz Mountains, California Compositions of ash, soil, sediment, water, and biota after the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Wildfire, Santa Cruz Mountains, California

The CZU Lightning Complex Wildfire burned 86,500 acres of forested coastal watersheds in the Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, from August 16 to September 22, 2020. Ash, soil, and stream sediment were collected and characterized as soon as sites could be safely accessed to quantify potential environmental and public hazards from wildfire-related potentially toxic metals and polycyclic aromatic

Ecological model support for the Biscayne Bay and Southeastern Everglades Restoration (BBSEER) Project, 2025: Tentatively Selected Plan, ALT32R Ecological model support for the Biscayne Bay and Southeastern Everglades Restoration (BBSEER) Project, 2025: Tentatively Selected Plan, ALT32R

Ecological models facilitate evaluation of alternative approaches to restore the Greater Everglades ecosystem. However, the provision of useful and accessible models is a challenge because there is often a disconnect between model output and its use by decision makers. Joint Ecosystem Modeling (JEM) meets this challenge by providing ecological model output tailored to management...

Synthesis of common themes within semi-structured interviews with members of the Everglades REstoration, COordination, and VERification (RECOVER) group Synthesis of common themes within semi-structured interviews with members of the Everglades REstoration, COordination, and VERification (RECOVER) group

Dataset of common themes that arose from semi-structured interviews with members of REstoration, COordination, and VERification (RECOVER), an interdisciplinary group of agencies, tribes, and institutions that conduct scientific evaluations and assessments to improve the implementation of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The interviews centered on the ability and...

Vegetation cover and surface elevation data in restored wetlands at the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Management Area, Texas, 2024 Vegetation cover and surface elevation data in restored wetlands at the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Management Area, Texas, 2024

Vegetation cover and surface elevation data were collected in restored marshes at the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Management Area in Texas, USA. Data were collected in late April and early May of 2024. Data were collected in 0.25 m² plots strategically placed along habitat transition zones between cover classes. Cover classes, listed from lowest to highest mean surface elevation, included...

Data for: UAS and high-resolution satellite imagery improve the accuracy of cheatgrass detection across an invaded Yellowstone landscape Data for: UAS and high-resolution satellite imagery improve the accuracy of cheatgrass detection across an invaded Yellowstone landscape

We mapped cheatgrass at different scales in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem using 10-m Sentinel-2 imagery, 3-m PlanetScope, and 10-cm Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS) imagery. We compared these maps to field-collected data to address 1) variation in seasonal phenological signals of native and cheatgrass patches, 2) the influence of scale on detectability and map accuracy across our...
