Trends in wintering canvasback populations at Catahoula Lake, Louisiana Trends in wintering canvasback populations at Catahoula Lake, Louisiana
Aerial survey data (1968-1989) and water gauge readings (1958-1989) were examined to detennine trends in and relationships between canvasback (Aythya valisineria) populations and water levels at Catahoula Lake, Louisiana. Wintering canvasback populations at Catahoula Lake have increased over the past 21 years. A peak population estimate of 78,000 canvasbacks was recorded in January 1988...

Synthetic seismogram analysis of locally-recorded mine tremors Synthetic seismogram analysis of locally-recorded mine tremors
The fitting of synthetic seismograms to locally-recorded, broad-band, wide dynamic range seismic data is a very effective means of determining both seismic source parameters and focal mechanisms of mine tremors. Using data from a single three-component surface station, in conjunction with a seismic location network, a comprehensive description of the seismic source process can be...

Ferroan anorthosite from lunar breccia 64435: Implications for the origin and history of lunar ferroan anorthosites Ferroan anorthosite from lunar breccia 64435: Implications for the origin and history of lunar ferroan anorthosites
A composite clast of ferroan-anorthosite-suite rocks from lunar breccia 64435 is shown to contain three lithologies. The results suggest that the structures of the 64435 composite clast were produced in an early deformation that consisted of extensive granulation followed by pervasive recrystallization, and that some granulitic breccias are nearly monomict. The REE concentrations in the...

100 years of sedimentation study by the USGS 100 years of sedimentation study by the USGS
On January 15, 1889, the U.S. Geological Survey began collecting sediment data on the Rio Grande at Embudo, New Mexico. During the past 100 years the U.S. Geological Survey's Water Resources Division (WRD) has collected daily sediment data at more than 1,200 sites. Projects have addressed the problems associated with reservoir construction, agricultural irrigation projects, energy...
