Edward F Roseman

Biography

I am a Research Fishery Biologist at the USGS Great Lakes Science in Ann Arbor, MI where I have been employed since 2004.  I have a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from Michigan State University and I specialize in fish early life history studies. I participate in multi-jurisdictional collaborative research and assessment projects that examine the efficacy of fish habitat restoration, influences of physical factors on fish year-class strength development, and long-term monitoring of Great Lakes fish communities.

     Duties and Responsibilities: design and conduct research and monitoring activities to assess Great Lakes fish communities and habitats; develop quality assurance program for fish age and growth analyses; collaborate with interjurisdictional management agencies in developing strategies to restore and promote sustainable fisheries; solicit and administer project program funds and logistics for multi-million dollar research programs; hiring, training and supervision of employees; publication of research results.

            Duties and responsibilities: Design and conduct ecological monitoring studies to assess impact of entrainment and heated effluent on fish populations in Long Island Sound in the vicinity of the power station in accordance with Section 316b of the Clean Water Act. Analyze fisheries data using computerized statistical software and modern fish population dynamics models.  Develop and administer the station’s GIS detailing discharge locations and data.  Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations describing the results of monitoring and research conducted.  Supervise technicians and student interns during fisheries field and laboratory exercises. Certified in non-radioactive hazardous waste handling.

Fish Stocking and Marking Biologist, Fisheries Division, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Beulah, MI.

Duties and responsibilities: I coordinated the stocking and marking of hatchery-reared fish for the state of Michigan.  I was responsible for ensuring the safety and maintenance of the fish transportation fleet, training of truck drivers, and logistics of the fish stocking and marking program.  I also facilitated and administered the fish stocking and marking units budget including approving expenditures and purchasing new fish transportation units and marking equipment.
