Radiocarbon dating of deep-sea black corals collected off the southeastern United States
Results of radiocarbon dating of deep-sea (500 m to 700 m) black corals are presented. Geochemical analyses of authigenic carbonates, bivalves, and pore fluids were performed on samples collected from seep fields along the Queen Charlotte Fault, a right lateral transform boundary that separates the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. The Kimki Ridge fluid seeps are located in western Catalina Basin about 60 km southwest of the southern California mainland and at a water depth of approximately 1100 m.
