Data

Basic hydrologic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and archiving are major parts of the California Water Science Center program. Streamflow data, for example, are used for flood and water-supply forecasts, planning and design, river regulation, streamflow statistics, and research investigations. Much of the data are available on a near-real-time basis by satellite telemetry.

This data release documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in Suisun Marsh and Suisun Bay in the San Francisco Estuary of California, USA. The data set includes nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, blue-green algal...

California Wildfires California Wildfires

Wildfires pose significant threat in an increasingly arid California landscape, threatening life, property, and air quality, and having long-term impacts on the state's water. Knowing the location and extent of wildfires may help scientists and resource managers predict and manage potential impacts burns may have upon California's water quality, availability, and movement.

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar and Groundwater-Level Data, Pajaro Valley, Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, California, 1970-2018 Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar and Groundwater-Level Data, Pajaro Valley, Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, California, 1970-2018

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data for 2015 through 2018 from the European Space Agency's (ESA) Sentinel-1A satellite were acquired from the Alaskan Satellite Facility and used to generate spatially detailed land-surface deformation maps (interferograms) for the Pajaro Valley using conventional Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) workflows. Groundwater-level data for 1970...

Archive of Merced River Basin Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System, with forecasting, climate-file preparation, and data-visualization tools Archive of Merced River Basin Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System, with forecasting, climate-file preparation, and data-visualization tools

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), has constructed a new spatially distributed Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) for the Merced River Basin (Koczot and others, 2021), which is a tributary of the San Joaquin River in California. PRMS is a deterministic, distributed-parameter, physical-process-based modeling system...

Ground-based transient electromagnetic data and resistivity models at selected sites of the California Central Coast and San Joaquin Valley 2019 Ground-based transient electromagnetic data and resistivity models at selected sites of the California Central Coast and San Joaquin Valley 2019

Ground-based transient electromagnetic (TEM) data were acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at 16 locations of California’s southwestern San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast regions to define the electrical resistivity structure of hydrogeologic materials. Data were acquired using the ABEM WalkTEM system (Guideline Geo Ab, Sundbyberg, Sweden). TEM data were processed and...

Detections of Fecal Indicator Bacteria and DNA Sequencing of Selected Bacterial Growths in Samples from the Madera/Chowchilla-Kings Domestic Aquifer Study unit, 2014: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project Detections of Fecal Indicator Bacteria and DNA Sequencing of Selected Bacterial Growths in Samples from the Madera/Chowchilla-Kings Domestic Aquifer Study unit, 2014: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project

These data describe microbiological analyses performed on groundwater samples from domestic drinking water supply collected from 42 groundwater wells in the Central Valley of California. Samples were collected between January 2014 and April 2014 for the Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) program priority basin assessment of the Madera, Chowchilla, and Kings (MACK)...

A snapshot of stakeholder science needs related to drought in the Colorado River Basin A snapshot of stakeholder science needs related to drought in the Colorado River Basin

Stakeholder science needs were determined by reviewing more than 200 recently published literature items and web pages from Colorado River Basin (CRB) stakeholders. These stakeholder communications were used to characterize over 400 stakeholder science needs by reviewing their priorities, strategies, issues, missions, and concerns related to drought in the CRB. Members of the CRB...

Borehole Erosion Test data, Lower American and Sacramento Rivers, California, 2019 (ver. 3.0, July 2020) Borehole Erosion Test data, Lower American and Sacramento Rivers, California, 2019 (ver. 3.0, July 2020)

Borehole erosion tests were performed to quantify sediment erosion rates as a function of depth below grade and flow speed at locations along the Sacramento and American Rivers in 2019. The dataset consists of: - borehole caliper files describing the initial geometry of the borehole, and its shape after each test flow event, - where available, a digital time series describing discharge...

Evaluation of ELISA for the Analysis of Imidacloprid in Plasma, Liver, and Fecal Matter Evaluation of ELISA for the Analysis of Imidacloprid in Plasma, Liver, and Fecal Matter

Neonicotinoids have become the most widely used insecticides in world with rapid growth in applications as seed coatings. Nontarget organisms are exposed to concentrated levels of pesticidal active ingredients through ingestion of treated seeds. To better understand pesticide fate, analytical methods are necessary to rapidly screen and accurately quantitate contaminants in environmental...
