Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Tops file for the Mowry Shale and associated strata in the Wind River Basin, Wyoming Tops file for the Mowry Shale and associated strata in the Wind River Basin, Wyoming
The Wind River Basin is a structural and sedimentary basin that formed during the Laramide orogeny in latest Cretaceous and early Eocene time. The basin encompasses about 7,400 square miles in central Wyoming and is bounded by the Washakie, Owl Creek and Bighorn uplifts on the north, the Casper arch on the east, the Granite Mountains uplift on the south, and Wind River uplift on the west...
Bathymetry, topography and orthomosaic imagery for Whiskeytown Lake, northern California (ver. 2.0, July 2021) Bathymetry, topography and orthomosaic imagery for Whiskeytown Lake, northern California (ver. 2.0, July 2021)
The Carr Fire ignited in northern California on July 23, 2018, and over the following six weeks burned almost 300,000 acres (approximately half on federal lands), resulting in a federal major-disaster declaration (DR-4382). Approximately 93 percent of the area within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was burned extensively during the Carr Fire, including all of the landscape...
Data Release for the 2016 East Bay Seismic Imaging Investigation of the Hayward Fault Zone Data Release for the 2016 East Bay Seismic Imaging Investigation of the Hayward Fault Zone
In October 2016, we acquired an approximately 15-km-long seismic profile along a linear transect across the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area. Our goal was to image previously unknown strands of the Hayward Fault zone and to better delineate the structure and geometry of the main trace of the Hayward Fault. Our profile started near the southern border of San Leandro...

Oblique Thermal Imaging of the Pisgah Lava Field, California Acquired March 2010 Oblique Thermal Imaging of the Pisgah Lava Field, California Acquired March 2010
As part of a NASA-funded study of diurnal thermal imaging at a Mars analog site, we conducted simultaneous oblique thermal imaging and in situ temperature measurements within two regions of interest on the Pisgah lava field, near Ludlow, California. Both regions of interest contained either cave or cave-like alcoves. Data released in this report was collected from 03/23/2010 to 03/25...

Colorado River at Compact Point near Lees Ferry, AZ - 2021/03/18 Water Surface Velocity Map Using Particle Image Velocimetry Colorado River at Compact Point near Lees Ferry, AZ - 2021/03/18 Water Surface Velocity Map Using Particle Image Velocimetry
The dataset consists of a shapefile of measurements of surface velocity magnitude and direction at the Colorado River at Compact Point near Lees Ferry, AZ, on March 18, 2021. The dataset contains approximately 1.2 km of river length. The surface velocity measurements were made by applying Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) techniques, using overlapping videos collected by...
GPS monitoring data from spider units on the post-disaster 2014 Oso landslide, Snohomish County, Washington GPS monitoring data from spider units on the post-disaster 2014 Oso landslide, Snohomish County, Washington
Data in this release record ground-surface positions obtained during post-disaster emergency response following the 2014 catastrophic Oso (SR 530) landslide, Snohomish County, Washington. Global Positioning System (GPS) data were collected using three USGS GPS-seismometer spider units deployed adjacent to (OSO1), upslope of (OSO2), and on (OSO3) the landslide (see image for locations)...
Poplar Island Digitizing Poplar Island Digitizing
In order to allow for a comparison across years we visually digitized landcover of Poplar Island from a single image per year at a 1:1000 spatial extent with a minimum mapping unit of 300 square meters (no minimum dimensions aside from area). Images used to assign landcover were provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and were captured between July and October of their respective...

Data on prairie dog densities, flea abundance on prairie dogs, and plague epizootics in Montana and Utah, USA, 2003-2005. Prairie dog species (PDspecies in the data file) included black-tailed prairie dogs (PDs) (BTPD, Cynomys ludovicianus) in north-central Montana, white-tailed PDs (WTPD, Cynomys leucurus) in eastern Utah, and Utah PDs (UPD, Cynomys parvidens) in southwestern Utah...
Closed depression density in karst regions of the conterminous United States: features and grid data Closed depression density in karst regions of the conterminous United States: features and grid data
Most methods for the assessment of sinkhole hazard susceptibility are predicated upon knowledge of pre-existing closed depressions in karst areas. In the United States (U.S.), inventories of existing karst depressions are piecemeal, and are often obtained through inconsistent methodologies applied at the state or county level and at various scales. Here, we present a first attempt at...
