Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Occurrence, Rarity and Climate Sensitivity Index, and Components of 29 Fishes Native to the Pacific Northwest, USA Occurrence, Rarity and Climate Sensitivity Index, and Components of 29 Fishes Native to the Pacific Northwest, USA

These datasets include the components of and results from the Rarity and Climate Sensitivity Index (RCS) and occurrence records used to calculate the index for 29 stream fishes native to the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Idaho, Oregon) of the United States. The RCS is an index that ranks species’ intrinsic sensitivity to climate change based on their area of occurrence and climate niche...

Salinity Loads at 20-stations in the Colorado River Basin Salinity Loads at 20-stations in the Colorado River Basin

The U.S Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), prepares a biennial analysis of salt loading at 20 sites on the Colorado River and its tributaries in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. These estimates can also be used by Reclamation to measure the effectiveness of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program. Data are...

Plant community composition, abundance, phenology, and soil data from a four-year seasonal drought experiment followed by four years of recovery in a mixed grassland on the Colorado Plateau Plant community composition, abundance, phenology, and soil data from a four-year seasonal drought experiment followed by four years of recovery in a mixed grassland on the Colorado Plateau

These data were compiled for a study that investigated the effects of experimentally imposed seasonal droughts (cool season drought, warm season drought, ambient) and drought recovery on plant community dynamics in a mixed dryland ecosystem. In 2015, U.S. Geological Survey ecologists began recording vegetation and soil moisture data in 36 experimental plots which manipulated...

GPS Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) from the Denali Herd, Alaska, 2010-2018 GPS Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) from the Denali Herd, Alaska, 2010-2018

GPS collar location data were collected as part of a long-term study on caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) in the Denali herd of Alaska. Collars were deployed on adult (greater than or equal to 2 years) female caribou from 2010-2013, and then refurbished and redeployed on adult (greater than or equal to 4 years) male caribou from 2014-2018. The collars were manufactured by Telonics (TGW...

Positive openness for the Delaware River Basin Positive openness for the Delaware River Basin

In support of the U.S. Geological Survey Water Mission Area’s assessment of Integrated Water Science (IWS) basins across the United States (Van Metre and others, 2020), this data release contains a positive openness raster dataset that was developed for the Delaware River Basin. The raster was developed to help characterize the landscape and channel features within the Delaware River...

Pesticide, organic wastewater compound (OWC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) data determined from samples collected with instream passive samplers in the Big Darby Creek Basin, Ohio, 2020-21 Pesticide, organic wastewater compound (OWC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) data determined from samples collected with instream passive samplers in the Big Darby Creek Basin, Ohio, 2020-21

This dataset contains estimated time-weighted average water concentrations and quality control samples for pesticide, organic wastewater compound (OWC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) data determined from samples collected with instream passive samplers in the Big Darby Creek Basin, Ohio, 2020-21.

Cosmogenic burial dating results, detrital zircon U-Pb results, and knick point locations associated with the incision history of Hells Canyon Cosmogenic burial dating results, detrital zircon U-Pb results, and knick point locations associated with the incision history of Hells Canyon

This data release is companion to a manuscript entitled: "Carving North America’s Deepest Gorge: Constraints on the Timing and Mechanism of forming Hells Canyon". Here, we report cosmogenic age data analyzed from sediments deposited within caves within the Hells Canyon region, as well as the knick point locations mapped out from topographic analysis and detrital zircon U-Pb ages derived...

GIS Data for Geologic Map of the Eastern Part of the Challis National Forest and Vicinity, Idaho GIS Data for Geologic Map of the Eastern Part of the Challis National Forest and Vicinity, Idaho

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides a digital geospatial database for the geologic map of the eastern part of the Challis National Forest and vicinity, Idaho (Wilson and Skipp, 1994). Attribute tables and geospatial features (lines and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (USGS NCGMP, 2020) and represent the geologic map as published in U.S. Geological Survey...

GIS Data for Selected Data from the Geologic Map of the Western Part of the Cut Bank 1 Degree x 2 Degrees Quadrangle, Northwestern Montana GIS Data for Selected Data from the Geologic Map of the Western Part of the Cut Bank 1 Degree x 2 Degrees Quadrangle, Northwestern Montana

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release updates the digital geospatial database for the southern portion of the geologic map of the western part of the Cut Bank 1 degree x 2 degrees quadrangle, northwestern Montana (Harrison and others, 1998). Attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines, and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (USGS NCGMP, 2020). The 899,246...

Aeolian sediment-trap data from the Colorado River corridor in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona Aeolian sediment-trap data from the Colorado River corridor in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Samples of aeolian (wind-transported) sediment were collected between 2003 and 2010 at multiple locations along the Colorado River corridor within Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. At each site, sediment being actively transported by wind were collected using a set of four vertically stacked passive samplers (Big Spring Number Eight [BSNE] sand traps). Sediment samples were collected...

Substrate Imagery Classifications for Lake Trout Spawning Habitat in Lake Ontario, 2023-2024 Substrate Imagery Classifications for Lake Trout Spawning Habitat in Lake Ontario, 2023-2024

This dataset is the result of international collaborative efforts by the United States Geological Survey, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans. These data provide substrate information along the shoreline of Lake...
