Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Produced water major ion geochemistry from petroleum wells producing from the Smackover Formation in southwestern Alabama Produced water major ion geochemistry from petroleum wells producing from the Smackover Formation in southwestern Alabama
This data release contains major ion geochemistry (B, Ba, Br, Cl, Ca, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Si, SO₄ Sr), total dissolved solids, and specific gravity measurements for produced water samples collected from petroleum wells producing from the Smackover Formation in southwestern Alabama. Analyses were performed at the U.S. Geological Survey Brine Research Instrumentation and Experimental...
One-second USGS magnetic observatory data collected before 2013 One-second USGS magnetic observatory data collected before 2013
The USGS Geomagnetism Program operates a network of magnetic observatories that collect vector and scalar magnetometer data for use in Earth main-field modeling, geophysics research, space physics research, and space weather hazard assessment and mitigation. Until mid-2011, only 1-minute time resolution magnetic field measurements were archived with the INTERMAGNET consortium following
Earthquake Catalogs of Cascade Range Volcanoes in the United States since 1980 Earthquake Catalogs of Cascade Range Volcanoes in the United States since 1980
The earthquake catalogs begin January 1, 1980. The dataset has been generated using the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) Quake Management System (AQMS) tool dbselect, which queries the earthquake catalog in a way that is not possible using the United States Geological Survey Comprehensive Catalog (Comcat). In particular, low frequency earthquakes are not distinguishable from...
Water quality data for selected post-wildfire watersheds in the western United States, water years 2021–2024 Water quality data for selected post-wildfire watersheds in the western United States, water years 2021–2024
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Availability Impacts of Extreme Events, Building Wildfire Capacity project, which aims to enhance the ability to assess and predict the impacts of wildfires on water supplies, monitored water quality in selected basins in the Western U.S, including California, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, and New Mexico, that were affected by wildfire in 2020–2022...
Environmental data at source-bordering aeolian dunefields in the Grand Canyon Dune Atlas Environmental data at source-bordering aeolian dunefields in the Grand Canyon Dune Atlas
These data were compiled to characterize the population of source-bordering aeolian dunefields (SBDs) along the Colorado River downstream of Glen Canyon Dam in the Grand Canyon, from Lees Ferry to the Diamond Creek confluence located approximately 225 river miles downstream. The dataset is a comma-separated values (.csv) file in which each of the 58 rows represents a single SBD as...
Stillwater Complex Rock Outcrop Database (ver. 2.0, September 2026) Stillwater Complex Rock Outcrop Database (ver. 2.0, September 2026)
This dataset includes a polygon shapefile (SWTR_Outcrops_ver2.shp) that describes areas of rock outcrop in the area of the Stillwater Complex, Montana. The Stillwater Complex is an Archean, ultramafic to mafic layered intrusion exposed in the Beartooth Mountains in south-central Montana. This igneous intrusion contains magmatic mineralization that is variably enriched in strategic and...
Macrophyte Communities and Environmental Data for the Upper Mississippi River from 1998–2019 Macrophyte Communities and Environmental Data for the Upper Mississippi River from 1998–2019
The data is a compilation of long-term resource monitoring (LTRM) data, hydrology data, and weather data across the Upper Mississippi River, USA. The intent is to better understand the relationships of the macrophyte (aquatic vegetation) community diversity to basic weather/climate, hydrologic, and water quality variables at multiple spatial scales (e.g., plot, aquatic area, stratum, and...
Images of phytoplankton used in the development of a convolutional neural network to automate phytoplankton identification Images of phytoplankton used in the development of a convolutional neural network to automate phytoplankton identification
We collected less than 160,000 images of particles using an imaging flow cytometer (the FlowCam). Images were then identified manually using morphology to the lowest taxonomic resolution possible. Greater than half of those images were either zooplankton, detritus or could not be identified (unknown). These identified images were then used to train and test a convolutional neural network...
ShakeMap Atlas V4 and AtlasCat ShakeMap Atlas V4 and AtlasCat
The Atlas of ShakeMaps (~14,100 earthquakes, 1900-2020) provides a consistent and quantitative description of the distribution of shaking intensity for calibrating earthquake loss estimation methodologies, like those used in the USGS Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response (PAGER) system. Version 4 of the Atlas includes a vastly expanded compilation of ShakeMaps for...
Landslides with Back-Calculated Strength Parameters, Cosmogenic 10-Be Samples, and Stream Profile Inversion Data, Utuado, Puerto Rico (USA) Landslides with Back-Calculated Strength Parameters, Cosmogenic 10-Be Samples, and Stream Profile Inversion Data, Utuado, Puerto Rico (USA)
This Data Release comprises a lidar-mapped landslide inventory along the Quebrada de Utuado watershed, a tributary to the Rio Viví in the Utuado Municipality of Puerto Rico. The study area watershed is underlain primarily by quartz diorite of the Utuado batholith (Bawiec, 1998) and is part of an area that experienced some of the highest landslide concentrations from 2017 Hurricane Maria...
Daily water surface elevations for mainstem gages along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois rivers Daily water surface elevations for mainstem gages along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois rivers
The hydrologic regime is a fundamental driver of ecosystem patterns and processes in the Upper Mississippi River System. This database represents a comprehensive, searchable dataset of Upper Mississippi River System's hydrologic conditions to support scientific and management applications. It comprises daily water surface elevations from 140 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers gaging stations...
Model input and output data supporting modeling the Silver Carp metapopulation connection between the Mississippi and Illinois River Model input and output data supporting modeling the Silver Carp metapopulation connection between the Mississippi and Illinois River
This data release contains input data, estimated demographic parameters, movement probabilities, and simulated population outputs for a Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) metapopulation model. The model explores the importance of the interjurisdictional connection between the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers, with a focus on developing strategies to reduce the risk of an invasion...
