Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Vegetation, soil, and horizontal mass flux data from the Well Pad Reclamation and Research field trials in the Uinta Basin, Utah and the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action field trials near Moab, Utah Vegetation, soil, and horizontal mass flux data from the Well Pad Reclamation and Research field trials in the Uinta Basin, Utah and the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action field trials near Moab, Utah
These data were compiled for the Well Pad Reclamation and Research (WPRR) project in the Uinta Basin, Utah and related experiments conducted at the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) project near Moab, Utah. WPRR is a collaborative and co-production of science set of experiments in the Uinta Basin that includes the US Geological Survey (USGS), the Bureau of Land Management...
National Shoreline Change—A GIS compilation of vector shorelines and associated shoreline change data from the 1800s to the 2020s for the coast of Mississippi National Shoreline Change—A GIS compilation of vector shorelines and associated shoreline change data from the 1800s to the 2020s for the coast of Mississippi
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maintains shoreline positions for the United States coasts from various historical sources, such as aerial photographs or topographic surveys, and contemporary sources, such as lidar-point clouds and digital elevation models. Shorelines are compiled in a GIS and analyzed in the USGS Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) software to calculate rates of...
U.S. Geological Survey simulations of waves and ocean dynamics during Hurricanes Ian (2022), Idalia (2023), and Helene (2024) U.S. Geological Survey simulations of waves and ocean dynamics during Hurricanes Ian (2022), Idalia (2023), and Helene (2024)
The Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport (COAWST v3.8; Warner and others, 2010; Warner and others, 2019) modeling system was used to simulate ocean circulation, water levels, and waves that occurred during three separate hurricanes: Hurricane Ian (2022), Hurricane Idalia (2023), and Hurricane Helene (2024). Simulations were performed with coupled and concurrent ocean and wave...
Simulated daily soil moisture and temperature to characterize environmental conditions for plant establishment at sites in the western United States (1980-2023) Simulated daily soil moisture and temperature to characterize environmental conditions for plant establishment at sites in the western United States (1980-2023)
The goal for these data is to characterize patterns of soil moisture and temperature that have the potential to influence the establishment outcomes of post-fire restoration seeding. To accomplish this objective, we simulated daily soil moisture and soil temperatures at 4000+ locations in the western USA. We used a soil water balance model, SOILWAT2, and inputs from daily weather (DayMet...
Monthly Natural and Observed Streamflow Predictions for Five Priority Ecosystem Studies Large Landscape Regions in the United States Monthly Natural and Observed Streamflow Predictions for Five Priority Ecosystem Studies Large Landscape Regions in the United States
This data release contains prepared input attributes, monthly streamflow observations (minimum, mean, and maximum of the daily mean streamflow within each month), model outputs (predicted mean), and the code used to fetch and process these data. Code is also provided to generate confidence intervals for the mean, and prediction intervals using the built Random Forest models. Random...
Potential effects of oil and gas development on pollinating insects in the western United States: An annotated bibliography produced through a structured literature search and semi-automated content analysis Potential effects of oil and gas development on pollinating insects in the western United States: An annotated bibliography produced through a structured literature search and semi-automated content analysis
This data release contains the citation details, abstracts, and expert annotations of 235 publications on the topic of the potential effects of oil and gas development on pollinating insects in the western United States. Publications were collected through a structured literature search and a semi-automated content analysis. We developed a search string designed to pull relevant papers...
Geospatial Data to Assess Karst Aquifer Systems in Northern New York Geospatial Data to Assess Karst Aquifer Systems in Northern New York
This data release contains geospatial data for a region of karst terrain in northern New York State that extends from eastern Lake Ontario and the Mohawk Valley to the state border with Vermont and the United States-Canada border. These geospatial datasets include the location and extent of karstic rock; bedrock geology and elevation; average water-table configuration; surficial geology...
Random forest and donor-based simulated streamflow drought for 3,198 gages across the CONUS, 1982-2020 Random forest and donor-based simulated streamflow drought for 3,198 gages across the CONUS, 1982-2020
This metadata record describes random forest model simulated daily drought status at 3,198 stream gage locations distributed across the CONUS from 1982-04-01 to 2020-03-31. The models were trained on data from 1984-10-01 to 2015-09-30 and tested on data from 1982 to 1984 and 2016 to 2020. The models used explanatory variable inputs described in Wieczorek (2023) (doi.org/10.5066/P98IG8LO)...
Quaternary fault mapping within the eastern Centennial Tectonic Belt from high-resolution topography Quaternary fault mapping within the eastern Centennial Tectonic Belt from high-resolution topography
This data release presents mapping of late Quaternary fault scarps within the eastern Centennial Tectonic Belt, along the northwestern margin of the Yellowstone seismic parabola. Using 1-m light detection and ranging (lidar) data, we mapped nine faults: the Madison, Centennial, Lima Reservoir, Red Rock, unnamed faults in Hebgen Lake basin (now referred to as the “West Yellowstone basin”...
USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Niger Delta Province: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Niger Delta Province: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables
This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data, and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered conventional oil and gas resources of the Niger Delta Province of Nigeria and Cameroon. The assessment unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment (NAGA) Project for the assessment of...

The TIR and RGB...
Investigations on the impact of broad ion beam milling preparation on coal samples Investigations on the impact of broad ion beam milling preparation on coal samples
This data release presents the results of broad ion beam (BIB) milling tests on organic-rich geologic samples by comparing the changes in vitrinite reflectance (Ro) pre- and post-milling. This work utilized two different BIB milling systems (single gun and dual gun) and evaluated changes in Ro using different ion milling voltages (2–8 keV), and sample temperature (cooling vs. standard...
