Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon Data for Oil Samples from the Bemidji Oil Spill Research Site, 1987-2020 Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon Data for Oil Samples from the Bemidji Oil Spill Research Site, 1987-2020
The USGS is conducting a long-term study of a terrestrial crude oil spill that resulted from a ruptured pipeline in 1979. Samples of oil bailed from wells were analyzed for polyaromatic hydrocarbons by a commercial lab. A total of 32 samples were analyzed in three batches. A sample that serves as a surrogate for the original spilled oil was submitted with each batch. For each oil sample
Population Genetic Data of Breeding and Wintering King Eiders (Somateria spectabilis) Population Genetic Data of Breeding and Wintering King Eiders (Somateria spectabilis)
This data release includes one table of nuclear microsatellite genotypes and mitochondrial DNA haplotypes from the cytochrome b region in King Eider. This information was used to determine levels of population genetic differentiation among breeding and wintering sites of King Eiders (Somateria fischeri).
Population viability assessment of native fish species in the Pacific Northwest accounting for instream conditions of water temperature and streamflow permanence Population viability assessment of native fish species in the Pacific Northwest accounting for instream conditions of water temperature and streamflow permanence
This data release contains geospatial representations of population viability analysis (PVA) of 23 species of Pacific Northwest non-salmonid fishes. The analysis evaluated long term species persistence (~100 years) based on species distribution models that combined 1) modeled climate, 2) instream conditions, and 3) presence/absence fish data based on species needs and current climate...
Position Data for fish in the Lamine River Mouth, Missouri, USA from September to October 2024 Position Data for fish in the Lamine River Mouth, Missouri, USA from September to October 2024
Data include position data from a VEMCO Positioning Systems (VPS) array at the mouth of the Lamine River. The array was deployed September 3rd and retrieved October 2nd. Position data was generated for all tagged fish detected in the VPS array using Fathom Position software. The data includes 3946 positions for 26 detected tags. The array was deployed as part of a project to remove...
Positive openness for the Delaware River Basin Positive openness for the Delaware River Basin
In support of the U.S. Geological Survey Water Mission Area’s assessment of Integrated Water Science (IWS) basins across the United States (Van Metre and others, 2020), this data release contains a positive openness raster dataset that was developed for the Delaware River Basin. The raster was developed to help characterize the landscape and channel features within the Delaware River...
Post-Wildfire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessment (PWFDF) Collection Post-Wildfire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessment (PWFDF) Collection
Wildfire can substantially alter the hydrologic response of watersheds to rainfall, and debris-flow activity is among the most destructive consequences of these events. To assist federal, state, and local agencies in planning for postfire hazards, the U.S. Geological Survey conducts debris-flow hazard assessments for recent wildfires. This collection contains the results of those...
Potential Explanatory Variables for Groundwater Quality in California Potential Explanatory Variables for Groundwater Quality in California
This data release codifies and attributes values for potential explanatory factors to groundwater well locations and to groundwater basins in California. The groundwater sites are 282,000 wells that have water-quality data and are listed in the California State Water Resources Control Boards' Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Groundwater Information System (GAMA GIS)...
Potential Explanatory Variables for Groundwater Quality in the San Joaquin Valley Kern County Subbasin Domestic Well Study Unit, 2022 Potential Explanatory Variables for Groundwater Quality in the San Joaquin Valley Kern County Subbasin Domestic Well Study Unit, 2022
This data release codifies and attributes explanatory variables at 33 wells used for domestic water supply. The sites were used to assess groundwater quality in the U.S. Geological Survey Priority Basin Project San Joaquin Valley Kern County Subbasin domestic-well study unit. The domestic-supply wells were assessed in 2021 as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board...
Potential for microbially mediated nitrogen transformations in benthic algae, sediment, and overlying water in the Great Lakes, 2022 Potential for microbially mediated nitrogen transformations in benthic algae, sediment, and overlying water in the Great Lakes, 2022
This dataset is associated with an examination of environmental DNA (eDNA) obtained from freshwater matrices (i.e. benthic algae, sediment, and near bottom water) collected by scuba divers from previously established transects located along the U.S. shoreline of Lakes: Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario. 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (i.e., targeting bacterial communities) and high...
Prairie dog trapping locations treated with plague or vaccine baits in western states Prairie dog trapping locations treated with plague or vaccine baits in western states
The data were collected to determine the density and abundance of prairie dogs in relation to treatment with vaccine or placebo baits and the occurrence of plague.
Pre- and post-fire modeled vegetation structure products for the Caldor, Cedar Creek, Dixie, KNP, and Muckamuck fires Pre- and post-fire modeled vegetation structure products for the Caldor, Cedar Creek, Dixie, KNP, and Muckamuck fires
Post-fire vegetation status and condition have multiple implications. They are indicative of burn severity and the lasting impacts of fire the land; they also help inform post-fire debris flow modeling and related risk analyses, hydrology and water quality assessments, and vulnerability to invasive species. Monitoring vegetation recovery over time enables continuous re-evaluation of...
Precipitation Runoff Modeling System Rainfall-Runoff Models and Outputs: Historic Observed Runs (1915-2015), Historic Simulated Runs (1950-2005), and Future Simulated Runs (2006-2099) Precipitation Runoff Modeling System Rainfall-Runoff Models and Outputs: Historic Observed Runs (1915-2015), Historic Simulated Runs (1950-2005), and Future Simulated Runs (2006-2099)
This dataset includes the original Precipitation Runoff Modeling System extractions from the USGS, the models that were calibrated to observed historic data, and the Global Circulation Model runs to simulate climate change.
