Obique photos offer a unique perspective of the coast. Features such as beach erosion or accretion, dune erosion and overwash can all be clearly characterized in this imagery. It also documents coastal infrastructure, as well as the damage that infrastructure may incur as the result of an impacting hurricane.

Maximum likelihood logistic regression is used to estimate drought probabilities for selected Virginia rivers and streams 5 to 11 months in advance. Hydrologic drought streamflow probabilities for summer months are provided as functions of streamflows during the previous winter months. In 1998 the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) began aquiring digital orthophoto quadrangles (DOQ) for the Upper Mississippi River floodplain to georeference the center's aerial photography and land cover/use data. Scientists refined the existing national-scale "De facto Reuse Incidence in our Nation's Consumable Supply" (DRINCS) model for the Shenandoah River watershed. The model, complemented by field measurements, provides a screening tool to understand human and wildlife exposure to toxicants and pathogens associated with the incidental reuse of treated wastewater in the watershed.
