Data

USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center operates about 580 real-time data collection sites acquiring information on surface water, groundwater, water quality, precipitation and ecosystem health. Data, including models, are also published for cooperative monitoring systems and investigative studies.

See Web Tools for accessing real-time and other selected data through interactive map apps.

Estrogen equivalents of surface water in Pennsylvania, 2012-2017

The data were gathered as part of a long-term, seasonal assessment of estrogenicity in selected locations within Pennsylvania from 2012-2017. Data were collected over this time frame to determine seasonal and annual changes in surface water estrogenicity.Estrogen is reported as estrogen equivalents (EEQ) as determined by a bioluminescent yeast estrogen screen. A total of 193 grab water samples wer

Soil Chemistry and Quality Control Data in support of Environmental Monitoring at the Open Burning/Open Detonation (OB/OD) areas in the Ammunition Area (AA) at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, 2021

Soil sampling was needed to provide analytical soil data for areas near the Open Burning/Open Detonation (OB/OD) areas in the Ammunition Area (AA) of Letterkenny Army Depot. The U.S. Geological Survey sampled 10 locations and prepared the samples for chemical analyses. Samples were collected from depths of zero to six inches with a stainless-steel trowel. Multiple subsamples (10-20) were homogeniz

Waterborne Gradient Self-potential, Temperature, and Conductivity Logging of the Upper part of the Delaware River between Hancock and Port Jervis, New York, June-July 2021

This data release contains waterborne gradient self-potential (SP), surface-water temperature, surface-water conductivity and specific conductance, and surface-water nitrate concentration data measured continuously in the upper part of the Delaware River along approximately 123 kilometers (km) between Hancock and Port Jervis, New York. All of the data were measured from a kayak between June 27 and

A finite-difference algorithm used to simulate radial diffusion, adsorption, and reactions of chlorinated ethenes in porous media

Simulations of radial diffusion, adsorption, and reactions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) - trichloroethene (TCE), cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cDCE), vinyl chloride (VC), trichlorofluoroethene (TCFE) - and bromide (Br) in a porous media are conducted using rock properties identified from a mudstone aquifer in the Newark Basin, near West Trenton, New Jersey. The simulations are conducted using a

Data for Characterization of Ambient Groundwater Quality within a State-wide, Fixed Station Monitoring Network in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019

This dataset contains quality-assurance and quality-control data (QA/QC) not publicly available in the online National Water Information System (NWIS) for the Pennsylvania Groundwater Monitoring Network collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Pennsylvania, 2015-2019. The quality-control data (such as blanks and replicates) were collected at a subset of sites to ensure that the data meets

Surrogate regression models for computation of time series suspended-sediment concentrations, Chester County, Pennsylvania (2020)

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Chester County Water Resources Authority (CCWRA), has collected discrete stream samples for analysis of suspended-sediment concentrations at seven gaging stations where near real-time continuous data on stream discharge, and turbidity have been collected since 2005. Historical regression equations to estimate suspended-sediment concentrati

Compilation of data not available in the National Water Information System for domestic wells sampled by the U.S. Geological Survey in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, May-September 2017

Clune, J.W., and Cravotta III, C.A., 2020, Compilation of data not available in the National Water Information System for domestic wells sampled by the U.S. Geological Survey in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, May-September 2017: U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9Q86Z7D.

Data compilation for regional synthesis of chemical characteristics of groundwater used for domestic supply in north-east and north-central Pennsylvania

Groundwater quality data for 472 domestic well-water samples were retrieved from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database and combined with descriptive information on the sampled well locations. The NWIS data for a sample, collected on the selected date, were averaged into a single record (one per well), and rounded according to USGS protocols. For evaluation and reporting, the w

Regional screening for managed aquifer recharge suitability in Jordan, Lebanon, and surrounding areas

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Arab Water Council, Hydrology.NL, National Center for Research and Development (Jordan), and American University of Beirut, completed a project for acceleration of aquifer storage and recovery in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The MENA region is globally the most water-scarce regi

Per-and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) and associated ancillary data from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, 2019

The USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center (USGS PAWSC) in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) has assembled this data release in support of ongoing USGS and PADEP evaluations related to the occurrence and distribution of Per-and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) within Pennsylvania surface water. The data is of four general types: Discrete sam

Regional flood skew for parts of the mid-Atlantic region (hydrologic unit 02) in eastern New York and Pennsylvania

This data release contains annual peak-flow data through the 2013 water year, specification and output files from flood-frequency analysis of the annual peak-flow data in USGS PeakFQ software, a GIS shapefile of the basin polygons with attributes of site information, basin characteristics, results of flood-frequency analysis, and results of B-WLS/B-GLS analysis of skewness of the annual peak flows

Data in support of study evaluating effects of legacy-sediment removal on nutrients and sediment in Big Spring Run, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 2009-15

The stream corridor at the Big Spring Run restoration site has been identified as a substantial source of sediment and nutrients to streams due to streambank erosion and floodplain scour of legacy sediment. Three USGS streamgages were installed and water-quality monitoring began in water year 2009, prior to the legacy sediment removal from the restoration area. The legacy sediment was removed from
