Pennsylvania Water Science Center

Data and Tools

USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center operates about 580 real-time data collection sites in Pennsylvania for acquiring information on surface water, groundwater, water quality, and precipitation. These sites provide near real-time data via satellite communication and these data are provided to the public through the National Water Information System as well as through many USGS web applications.

Streamflow was collected at various streamgages in western Pennsylvania in support of the scientific investigations report "Estimation of Base Flow on Ungaged, Periodically Measured Streams in Small Watersheds in Western Pennsylvania". Data observed at the streamgages for the period of August 1, 2014 through March 31, 2017 are considered. This dataset includes 1) all data used to de

Data collected and sediment loads estimated in support of study evaluating effects of removal of legacy sediment at Big Spring Run, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 2009-2015 (ver 2.0, November 2020)

The stream corridor at the Big Spring Run restoration site has been identified as a substantial source of sediment and nutrients to streams due to streambank erosion and floodplain scour of legacy sediment. Three USGS streamgages were installed and water-quality monitoring began in water year 2009, prior to the legacy sediment removal from the restoration area. The legacy sediment was removed...

Data in Support of Development of Regression Equations for the Estimation of Flood Flows at Ungaged Streams in Pennsylvania (ver. 2.0, August 2020)

Regression equations, which may be used to estimate flood flows at select annual exceedance probabilities, were developed for ungaged streams in Pennsylvania. The equations were developed using annual peak flow data through water year 2015 and basin characteristics for 285 streamflow gaging stations across Pennsylvania and surrounding states. The streamgages included active and discontinued c...
