Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Conditions and Fluorescence Parameters Supporting Method Development and Validation for Microscopic Measurement of the Fluorescence Spectrum of Sedimentary Organic Matter in Geologic Samples Conditions and Fluorescence Parameters Supporting Method Development and Validation for Microscopic Measurement of the Fluorescence Spectrum of Sedimentary Organic Matter in Geologic Samples

Measurement of fluorescence parameters such as λ_max (the wavelength of maximum intensity emission), and red-green (R/G) and blue-green (B/G) quotients allows the use of fluorescence color as a thermal proxy in the exploration for and assessment of hydrocarbon-based energy resource accumulations in petroliferous sedimentary basins. Here, we present data supporting the development of a...

Los Angeles River Suspended Sediment Concentration Data, April 2021- November 2023 Los Angeles River Suspended Sediment Concentration Data, April 2021- November 2023

The Los Angeles River flows through a heavily urbanized area and the river is managed for multiple uses, including flood control, habitat, and recreation. The objective of this study was to collect data on stream flow and suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) at sites along the Los Angeles River and its tributaries in the Sepulveda Flood Control Basin (SFCB) to better understand...

American Avocet and Wilson’s Phalarope Locations and Ancillary Data Associated with the U.S. Geological Survey Saline Lake Ecosystems Integrated Water Availability Assessment Program American Avocet and Wilson’s Phalarope Locations and Ancillary Data Associated with the U.S. Geological Survey Saline Lake Ecosystems Integrated Water Availability Assessment Program

These data describe tracking information and provide location data of American avocets (from 2023-03-18 to 2024-12-31) and Wilson’s phalaropes (from 2023-08-17 to 2023-11-10) collected in support of the U.S. Geological Survey Saline Lakes Ecosystems Integrated Water Availability Assessment Program (USGS SLE IWAA). The data are provided using standardized formats and an attribute...

U-Pb LA-ICPMS and SHRIMP zircon geochronology data from the Bidahochi basin and surrounding areas, northern Arizona U-Pb LA-ICPMS and SHRIMP zircon geochronology data from the Bidahochi basin and surrounding areas, northern Arizona

This dataset consists of eight sandstone samples and four ash samples collected from the Bidahochi basin that were analyzed for U-Pb zircon ages. The dataset accompanies the publication "Late Miocene Colorado River arrival in Bidahochi basin permits spillover origin of Grand Canyon". Samples were collected from the field by Ryan Crow (USGS) and John Douglass (Paradise Valley Community...

Model Archive Summary for Turbidity Derived Suspended-Sediment Concentrations at U.S. Geological Survey Station 11313460; San Joaquin River at Prisoners Point near Terminous, California (2014 – 2020) Model Archive Summary for Turbidity Derived Suspended-Sediment Concentrations at U.S. Geological Survey Station 11313460; San Joaquin River at Prisoners Point near Terminous, California (2014 – 2020)

Continuous 15-minute time-series suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) data computed from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) instream turbidity data using a YSI EXO2 multi-parameter water quality sonde for the San Joaquin River at Prisoners Point near Terminous, California, USGS station #11313460. A Model Archive Summary (MAS) describes the development of a continuous 15-minute SSC time...

Dataset of rise velocities for gas bubbles with and without gas hydrate shells Dataset of rise velocities for gas bubbles with and without gas hydrate shells

Methane gas bubbles emitted from the seafloor transport methane through the water column. Methane transport is important to track because of the substantial role methane plays in biological processes and in the Earth’s climate system. Existing models used to predict methane transport based on methane dissolution rates from rising bubbles generally estimate bubble rise velocity from the...

Luminescence data for: Digital database for geologic and geophysical maps of the San Gorgonio Pass region, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, southern California Luminescence data for: Digital database for geologic and geophysical maps of the San Gorgonio Pass region, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, southern California

This report and accompanying maps and database address the geologic and geophysical character of a block of ten 7.5’ quadrangles that span the San Gorgonio Pass region. The study culminates more than four decades of intermittent geologic and geophysical mapping investigations by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Published results from these investigations fall into two categories: (1)...

Mercury Concentrations in Waters, Seston, Mussels, Sediment, and Prey Fish from Lake Ontario, 2023 Mercury Concentrations in Waters, Seston, Mussels, Sediment, and Prey Fish from Lake Ontario, 2023

As part of the larger Great Lakes Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative (CSMI) , the U.S. Geological Survey Mercury, Metals, and Microplastics Research Laboratory (USGS M3RL) completed a binational assessment partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), Environmental Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (ONRF)...

Modeled dissolved oxygen and water temperature in the Colorado River in Glen and Grand Canyons in support of resource impact analysis for Post-2026 reservoir operational alternatives Modeled dissolved oxygen and water temperature in the Colorado River in Glen and Grand Canyons in support of resource impact analysis for Post-2026 reservoir operational alternatives

These data were compiled in support of the Post-2026 Operational Guidelines and Strategies for Lake Powell and Lake Mead (Post 2026) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). These data were outputs from models that estimate annual minimum dissolved oxygen and daily water temperature in the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam. The objective of our study was to predict water temperatures and...

Movement data of Brown Pelicans from the Eastern Shore of Virginia Movement data of Brown Pelicans from the Eastern Shore of Virginia

Two data files are included. The first includes GPS locations (~ 22k) of adult brown pelicans (n = 7) and the second includes characteristics of foraging trips (n = 552) from these same seven birds. Pelicans were outfitted with GPS satellite tags during incubation and data collected for the longevity of the tag. Movement data were used to define use areas during the breeding season...

Concentration results for inorganic constituents in discrete tapwater samples, Montana, 2024. Concentration results for inorganic constituents in discrete tapwater samples, Montana, 2024.

This data release provides the concentration and quality-assurance results for inorganic constituents analyzed in water-quality samples from 26 residential and commercial tapwater locations in Montana by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Environmental Health Program (EHP), Tapwater Exposure Study. The samples were collected between June 10-12, 2024, from both public supply (8) and...

MidFish: A Large-Scale Aggregation of State Fisheries Data from the Midwestern United States from 1940 - 2023 MidFish: A Large-Scale Aggregation of State Fisheries Data from the Midwestern United States from 1940 - 2023

Lakes in the Midwestern United States support valuable recreational, subsistence, and tribal fisheries. Fisheries assessments that support management decisions are typically conducted within political boundaries and at intervals that limit their spatial and temporal scope. Data aggregation across lakes and regions facilitates research extending across ecological gradients and...
