Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Velocity distribution over a large submersed aquatic vegetation bed for 3 seasons in the Mississippi River, Navigation Pool 13, 2024. Velocity distribution over a large submersed aquatic vegetation bed for 3 seasons in the Mississippi River, Navigation Pool 13, 2024.
This dataset contains data collected with an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to measure velocity profiles over a large area with established submersed aquatic vegetation within the impounded area of the Mississippi River Navigation Pool 13, located northeast of Fulton, Illinois. Velocity profiles were obtained using a Xylem brand (San Diego, California) SonTek M9 ADCP for three...
Nearshore Multibeam and Single-Beam Bathymetry Data: Madeira Beach, Florida, February 2022 Nearshore Multibeam and Single-Beam Bathymetry Data: Madeira Beach, Florida, February 2022
In February 2022, the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) conducted multibeam and single-beam bathymetric surveys of the nearshore waters off Madeira Beach, Florida. These data were collected as part of a regional study designed to better understand coastal processes on barrier islands and sandy beaches. Results from this study will be...
Sentinel-2 burned area reference data across the southeastern United States Sentinel-2 burned area reference data across the southeastern United States
The creation of reference data to validate burned area products can help characterize variability in product errors and ensure appropriate utilization of burned area products. Reference burned area was mapped for six Sentinel-2 tiles distributed across the southeastern U.S. including within Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, and Virginia. Within each tile reference data were generated...
Datasets used to map the potentiometric surface and depth to water, Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer, spring 2024 Datasets used to map the potentiometric surface and depth to water, Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer, spring 2024
Potentiometric-surface and depth-to-water maps for spring 2024 were created for the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA) using most of the available groundwater-altitude data from wells and surface-water-altitude data from streamgages. The potentiometric surface was referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88), This data release contains (1) the location...
Surficial geologic map database for the Blanding, Dove Creek, Cortez, and Bluff 30-minute by 60-minute quadrangles, Utah and Colorado Surficial geologic map database for the Blanding, Dove Creek, Cortez, and Bluff 30-minute by 60-minute quadrangles, Utah and Colorado
This data release presents geologic map data for the surficial geology of the Blanding, Dove Creek, Cortez, and Bluff 30-minute by 60-minute quadrangles, Utah and Colorado. This 1:100,000 scale geologic mapping incorporates new interpretive contributions and compilation from 1:24,000 to 1:250,000 scale published geologic map data sources. Much of the geology incorporated from previous...
Remotely sensed waterbody surface area estimates and angler effort estimates in North Dakota and South Dakota between 1991 - 2021 Remotely sensed waterbody surface area estimates and angler effort estimates in North Dakota and South Dakota between 1991 - 2021
Dataset contains angler effort information for waterbodies in North Dakota and South Dakota collected through creel surveys between 1991 - 2019. The dataset also contains waterbody surface area estimates for each sampled waterbody that were gathered through remote sensing. Finally, the dataset contains waterbody surface area estimates for all public, managed waterbodies within the Devils...
Hyperspectral profiles of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and other algae, 2024 Hyperspectral profiles of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and other algae, 2024
This dataset is a collection of hyperspectral imagery profiles of algae, many of which are associated with Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs). Data were collected using a microscope-based hyperspectral imaging system with the cooperation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Samples were collected from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and...
Gas flux measurements from historical coal waste piles near Nanticoke Creek, Pennsylvania Gas flux measurements from historical coal waste piles near Nanticoke Creek, Pennsylvania
Gas emissions from coal waste piles can occur through degassing, biological decomposition, or low-temperature oxidation through atmospheric exposure. This study quantifies methane and carbon dioxide emissions of historic coal waste piles near Nanticoke Creek in Pennsylvania to: 1) measure if these piles are releasing gas emissions, 2) understand if previous surficial treatments of the...
Lidar-Derived Watershed Boundaries for Stream Gages and Selected Pour Points in Vermont, United States Lidar-Derived Watershed Boundaries for Stream Gages and Selected Pour Points in Vermont, United States
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), derived watershed boundaries for the State of Vermont at the 1-meter resolution using lidar Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software was used to hydrologically enforce DEMs and delineate watershed boundaries at 402 selected ungaged pour point...
Peak-flow frequencies and non-peak streamflow statistics for selected streamgages in or near Nevada through water year 2021 Peak-flow frequencies and non-peak streamflow statistics for selected streamgages in or near Nevada through water year 2021
This U.S. Geological Survey data release consists of multiple datasets of peak-flow and non-peak streamflow statistics along with trend analyses results, for select streamgages in or near Nevada through water year 2021. Peak-flow statistics were calculated in R statistical software environment (R Core Team, 2025) using version 8.0.1 of peakFQ software (Siefken and others, 2025). Non-peak
United States Documented Orphaned Well Database 2026 United States Documented Orphaned Well Database 2026
The United States Documented Orphaned Well Database (DOWDB) contains 130,121 unplugged oil and gas wells in 28 states. This release of the data is an update to, and supersedes, the initial version (Grove and Merrill, 2022). The definition of an orphaned oil or gas well varies across data sources; the database includes oil or gas wells where the state indicates that the well is an...
Water Depth in Tinajas, Clark County, Nevada, 2021 - 2023 Water Depth in Tinajas, Clark County, Nevada, 2021 - 2023
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release presents 15-minute continuous water-depth measured at four USGS monitoring locations at four tinajas (ephemeral rock pools) in Clark County, Nevada from December 2021 through October 2023. Each site was equipped with two pressure transducers: one submerged at the deepest point of the floor of the tinaja, measuring total pressure; and one at...
