Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Major and Trace Element Glass Compositions for the 2008 Okmok volcano eruption, lava samples from the Lost Jim lava flow (Seward Peninsula, AK), and an unknown ash deposited Candle, AK, in 1907 Major and Trace Element Glass Compositions for the 2008 Okmok volcano eruption, lava samples from the Lost Jim lava flow (Seward Peninsula, AK), and an unknown ash deposited Candle, AK, in 1907
This report provides in-situ major and trace element glass chemistry for three Alaska volcanic samples: (1) ash of unknown provenance deposited on western Alaska in November 1907, collected in Candle, Alaska, in 1908. The sample was discovered in the USGS Alaska Science Center archives as a covered slide prepared by U.S. Geological Survey geologist Edward Kindle. Ash was released from...
Transboundary Santa Cruz Aquifer Data Release – Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program Transboundary Santa Cruz Aquifer Data Release – Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program
This is a release of data presented in the report "Binational Study of the Transboundary Santa Cruz Aquifer", Callegary and others, 2025 The United States and Mexico share waters in a number of aquifers that cross the international boundary. Both the United States and Mexico recognize that a greater scientific understanding of these aquifer systems and a focus on the sustainability of...
Continuous Hydrologic and Meteorological Monitoring Data Adjacent to USGS Streamgages 01434498 and 01435000 in the Neversink Reservoir Watershed, New York, 2019–2024 Continuous Hydrologic and Meteorological Monitoring Data Adjacent to USGS Streamgages 01434498 and 01435000 in the Neversink Reservoir Watershed, New York, 2019–2024
This data release contains time-series data sets from two Next Generation Water Observing Systems (NGWOS) innovation test beds (USGS site numbers 01434498 and 01435000) within the Neversink River watershed, New York. These datasets are organized by station-specific child items which include the following components: Piezometer Records – Continuous measurements of specific conductance...
Satellite-Derived Stinknet (Oncosiphon pilulifer) Distribution Maps for Southern Arizona from 2017 - 2025 Satellite-Derived Stinknet (Oncosiphon pilulifer) Distribution Maps for Southern Arizona from 2017 - 2025
This dataset includes annualized raster images of stinknet (Oncosiphon pilulifer (L. f.) Källersjö) classification in south central Arizona from 2017 - 2025. The mapped area is comprised of Maricopa, Pinal, and Pima counties. The random forest model was created using 2019 imagery and was applied to imagery in other years. Training location data was created with the aid of National...
Wildlife Pellet and Vegetation Survey Data to Evaluate Outcomes of Wildfire and Post-Fire Restoration Treatments in the Northern Basin and Range Ecoregion, 2008-2009 Wildlife Pellet and Vegetation Survey Data to Evaluate Outcomes of Wildfire and Post-Fire Restoration Treatments in the Northern Basin and Range Ecoregion, 2008-2009
This dataset contains observations used to better understand wildlife and domestic livestock use of wildfire sites 2-15 years post-wildfire with different post-fire restoration treatments (post-fire seeding of native or non-native species). Field data come from 9 wildfire sites in the Northern Basin and Range Ecoregion spanning Idaho and Oregon. Vegetation structure and composition...
Diagnostic data showing mesothelioma in a Virginia opossum from Wisconsin in 2025 Diagnostic data showing mesothelioma in a Virginia opossum from Wisconsin in 2025
Here, we present a unique case of an epithelioid mesothelioma with cutaneous metastasis in a Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana) from Wisconsin, USA. We performed a gross necropsy, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. Significant gross findings included the absence of subcutaneous, visceral, peri-renal, and visceral adipose stores; subcutaneous edema; ascites; shaggy to nodular...
1975 Upper Mississippi River System Color Infrared Aerial Photograph Products 1975 Upper Mississippi River System Color Infrared Aerial Photograph Products
This dataset consists of digital scans of color infrared aerial photography from the Upper Mississippi River System collected in 1975, orthophotos created from those digital scans, and mosaics of the orthophotos for each navigation pool.
River current velocity measures for select areas of the St. Croix River, 2023-2024 River current velocity measures for select areas of the St. Croix River, 2023-2024
Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) surveys were conducted in October 2023 and August 2024 along several miles of the St. Croix River to measure water current velocities. Although ADCP is commonly used to estimate river discharge, these surveys were designed for a different purpose; therefore, USGS ADCP standards were not followed. Instead, we evaluated alternative approaches to...
Velocity distribution over a large submersed aquatic vegetation bed for 3 seasons in the Mississippi River, Navigation Pool 13, 2024. Velocity distribution over a large submersed aquatic vegetation bed for 3 seasons in the Mississippi River, Navigation Pool 13, 2024.
This dataset contains data collected with an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to measure velocity profiles over a large area with established submersed aquatic vegetation within the impounded area of the Mississippi River Navigation Pool 13, located northeast of Fulton, Illinois. Velocity profiles were obtained using a Xylem brand (San Diego, California) SonTek M9 ADCP for three...
Nearshore Multibeam and Single-Beam Bathymetry Data: Madeira Beach, Florida, February 2022 Nearshore Multibeam and Single-Beam Bathymetry Data: Madeira Beach, Florida, February 2022
In February 2022, the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) conducted multibeam and single-beam bathymetric surveys of the nearshore waters off Madeira Beach, Florida. These data were collected as part of a regional study designed to better understand coastal processes on barrier islands and sandy beaches. Results from this study will be...
Sentinel-2 burned area reference data across the southeastern United States Sentinel-2 burned area reference data across the southeastern United States
The creation of reference data to validate burned area products can help characterize variability in product errors and ensure appropriate utilization of burned area products. Reference burned area was mapped for six Sentinel-2 tiles distributed across the southeastern U.S. including within Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, and Virginia. Within each tile reference data were generated...
Datasets used to map the potentiometric surface and depth to water, Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer, spring 2024 Datasets used to map the potentiometric surface and depth to water, Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer, spring 2024
Potentiometric-surface and depth-to-water maps for spring 2024 were created for the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA) using most of the available groundwater-altitude data from wells and surface-water-altitude data from streamgages. The potentiometric surface was referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88), This data release contains (1) the location...
