Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Measured Plot Data of Forest Fuels and Terrestrial Laser Scanning Predictors in Southwest Virginia Measured Plot Data of Forest Fuels and Terrestrial Laser Scanning Predictors in Southwest Virginia

This table contains field measured surface, ground, and woody material for 164 plots across four sites in southwestern Virginia. Also included are metrics derived from coincident terrestrial laser scanning use to predict fuel loading. In the course of model creation, outliers were removed and hierarchical clustering was used to improve model performance, these groups are also recorded in...

This dataset contains basic morphological data: total length, body depth, body width, weight, and swimming performance metrics: relative Uburst, relative Ucrit, absolute Uburst, and absolute Ucrit for hybridized Molly Poecilia mexicana X P. salvatoris X P. sphenops, Green Swordtail Xiphophorus hellerii, and Blackchin Tilapia Sarotherodon melanotheron collected from the Ala Wai and Halawa

Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) and Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii) Genetic Data from North America Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) and Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii) Genetic Data from North America

This data package is comprised of one table with genetic data from Canada goose (Branta canadensis) and Cackling goose (Branta hutchinsii) sampled across their species range. Sample types include feather, blood quill, blood (whole), blood (buffer), and muscle. Data include sampling location and allele sizes of 9 microsatellite loci and mitochondrial control region haplotype information.

Sea-floor sediment and imagery data collected in Long Island Sound, Connecticut and New York, during LISMaRC-USGS survey 2023-008-FA Sea-floor sediment and imagery data collected in Long Island Sound, Connecticut and New York, during LISMaRC-USGS survey 2023-008-FA

These data were collected to characterize the sea floor by identifying sediment texture and benthic habitats in Long Island Sound. This dataset contains the locations and grain-size analysis results of surficial sediments collected with a modified Van Veen grab sampler on the SEABed Observation and Sampling System (SEABOSS 2.0). Eighty-nine sediment samples were acquired at 91 sampling...

Geochemistry and mineralogy of the Josephine Peridotite of California and Oregon Geochemistry and mineralogy of the Josephine Peridotite of California and Oregon

This data release includes whole rock geochemical data from 33 samples and mineralogical data from 12 samples of the Josephine Peridotite in California and Oregon. Rock samples were collected in 2024 by Naomi Becker and Katie Tognotti. Whole rock geochemistry data were analyzed by contract lab through the U.S. Geological Survey's Mineral Resources Program at the Geology, Geophysics, and

Geochemical data, thin section images, and modal mineralogy of selected bedrock samples from the Halifax County complex, North Carolina Geochemical data, thin section images, and modal mineralogy of selected bedrock samples from the Halifax County complex, North Carolina

This data release contains geochemical data, thin section images, and modal mineralogy from bedrock samples of the Halifax County complex in North Carolina. The geochemical data comprise whole-rock major oxide and trace element abundances in 11 samples. Modal mineralogy was obtained by powder X-ray diffraction and the Rietveld method of the same 11 samples. Pairs of thin section images...

Data describing IAV surveillance and serosurveillance in Common Terns during the 2025 breeding season. Data describing IAV surveillance and serosurveillance in Common Terns during the 2025 breeding season.

These data describe results derived form the sampling of Common Terns at three breeding colonies in the Atlantic Flyway to understand prevalence of infection with influenza A viruses and seroprevalence to the same.

Fiber-optic distributed temperature data collected along a reach of the Tuolumne River, CA, February 2026, adjacent to restored and agricultural floodplain areas Fiber-optic distributed temperature data collected along a reach of the Tuolumne River, CA, February 2026, adjacent to restored and agricultural floodplain areas

Fiber-Optic Distributed Temperature Sensing (FO-DTS) measurements were collected along the Tuolumne River within the Dos Rios Ranch area of River Partners restored floodplain properties, located downstream of Modesto, California. The deployment site was selected because the river at this location flows between a restored riparian floodplain on the left bank and an rip-rap bank stabilized

Hydraulic models and supplementary data for 30 stream crossing sites in Massachusetts Hydraulic models and supplementary data for 30 stream crossing sites in Massachusetts

The data in this data release are used to calibrate a Geographic Information System (GIS) based hydraulic modeling tool developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for Massachusetts in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). USGS developed one-dimensional U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis...

Housatonic River watershed hydraulic models and supplementary data for stream crossings in Massachusetts Housatonic River watershed hydraulic models and supplementary data for stream crossings in Massachusetts

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), developed one-dimensional U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center’s River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) hydraulic models for stream crossing sites in the Housatonic River watershed, Massachusetts. An automated Geographic Information System (GIS...

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, and parts of northern Wisconsin, 2025 Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, and parts of northern Wisconsin, 2025

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over much of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and nearby parts of northern Wisconsin. The airborne survey was funded by the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI). The survey was designed by the USGS in collaboration with the Michigan Geological Survey and contracted...

Hispid cotton rat (Sigmodon hispidus) behavioral and survival data within the Florida Everglades, 2023 Hispid cotton rat (Sigmodon hispidus) behavioral and survival data within the Florida Everglades, 2023

Consistent individual differences in animal behavior (i.e., personality traits) can influence multiple components of fitness, including predation risk. Because prey species often encounter multiple predator types, the relationship between personality traits and predation risk may vary depending on predator foraging strategy. Using hispid cotton rats (Sigmodon hispidus) as a model system...
