Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Gulf Watch Alaska Nearshore Component: Sea Otter Aerial Survey Data Katmai National Park and Preserve, 2008-2018 Gulf Watch Alaska Nearshore Component: Sea Otter Aerial Survey Data Katmai National Park and Preserve, 2008-2018
These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. Specifically, these data describe sea otter (Enhydra lutris) aerial survey observations from the waters around Katmai National Park and Preserve from surveys conducted in 2008, 2012, 2015, and 2018. Sea otters are a keystone predator, well known for structuring the nearshore...
Sea Otter Mortality Age Data from Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Prince William Sound, Alaska, 2006-2017 Sea Otter Mortality Age Data from Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Prince William Sound, Alaska, 2006-2017
These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The dataset is a comma separated file exported from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The data consist of information related to collection of sea otter carcasses. Collectors walked selected shorelines searching for signs of carcasses. Date, location, carcass condition, parts...
Archive of Digitized Analog Boomer Seismic Reflection Data Collected from the Northern Gulf of Mexico: 1982, 1985, 1989, 1991, and 1992 Archive of Digitized Analog Boomer Seismic Reflection Data Collected from the Northern Gulf of Mexico: 1982, 1985, 1989, 1991, and 1992
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP) has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of Mexico for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic reflection profiles (HRSP). Prior to the mid-1990s most HRSP data were collected in analog format as paper rolls...
Green-Ampt infiltration modeling following wildfire in the Colorado Front Range, USA Green-Ampt infiltration modeling following wildfire in the Colorado Front Range, USA
This product is a Model Archive for Green-Ampt method infiltration modeling following wildfire in the Boulder Creek watershed, in the Colorado Front Range, USA. The models contained in this archive simulate infiltration and consequent runoff generation through 7 years of recovery following a wildfire in 2010. These simulations provide insight to changes in the timing of runoff generation...
Water-tables Elevations and Other Well Construction Data for 2008 and 2016 in Eastern Albuquerque, New Mexico Water-tables Elevations and Other Well Construction Data for 2008 and 2016 in Eastern Albuquerque, New Mexico
The purpose of this data release is to present well location and construction data for select wells representing the water table in eastern Albuquerque and the selected groundwater-level measurements at the wells from the winters of 2008 and 2016. Construction and groundwater-level measurement data include screening intervals at the water table, reference elevation, depth to water in...
USGS Lake Erie East Harbor bottom trawl data series, 1961-2011 USGS Lake Erie East Harbor bottom trawl data series, 1961-2011
The USGS Lake Erie Biological Station's East Harbor sampling program began in 1961 with commissioning of the research vessel Musky II. It is the longest known continuous trawl survey in Lake Erie. In addition to spanning over 50 years, the data series is unique for three prominent design elements: 1) sampling was conducted at three depth strata; 2) replicate trawl samples were collected...

High forb diversity prairie reconstruction at Neal Smith NWR 2005-2015 High forb diversity prairie reconstruction at Neal Smith NWR 2005-2015
This data set consists of data collected during 2005-2007, 2010, and 2015 at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Iowa, USA that were used in the analysis in support of the article titled "Toward improving pollinator habitat: Reconstructing prairies with high forb diversity," which has been submitted to Natural Areas Journal. We compared pollinator habitat, in terms of planted forb...
Water Velocity Magnitude and Direction Collected on May 8-9, 2019 at Select Breakwaters in Lake Erie at Presque Isle State Park, Erie, PA Water Velocity Magnitude and Direction Collected on May 8-9, 2019 at Select Breakwaters in Lake Erie at Presque Isle State Park, Erie, PA
Background: Presque Isle State Park (PISP), located in northwestern Pennsylvania, is located on a 3,127 acre peninsula that extends into Lake Erie. Approximately 7 miles long, PISP is a recurving sand spit where the width of the neck is less than 1,000 feet and the center, eastern end exceeds 1 mile. The park boundary extends 500 feet offshore around the perimeter of the peninsula. The...
Data on well characteristics and well-pair characteristics for estimating high groundwater levels in selected areas of Massachusetts Data on well characteristics and well-pair characteristics for estimating high groundwater levels in selected areas of Massachusetts
A method to estimate the probable high groundwater level in Massachusetts, excluding Cape Cod and the Islands was developed in 1981. The method, commonly called the "Frimpter Method," uses a groundwater measurement from a test site, groundwater measurements from an index well, and a distribution of high groundwater levels from wells in similar geologic and topographic settings. Historic
utc2nwislocal, UTC date-times to NWIS local time zones using UTC offsets utc2nwislocal, UTC date-times to NWIS local time zones using UTC offsets
The utc2nwislocal package in the R language provides a light-weight, dependency-free utility for converting Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) base::as.POSIXct() date-time values into character-string representations for time zones. The UTC offsets for individual time zones are determined from the time-zone codes recognized by the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System...
