Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

High-Throughput Microsatellite Genotypes for Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) in Ivanpah Valley (2011-2024) (ver. 2.0, December 2025) High-Throughput Microsatellite Genotypes for Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) in Ivanpah Valley (2011-2024) (ver. 2.0, December 2025)
Monitoring population connectivity to inform management is especially important in regions at the very edges of wilderness where native fauna and flora face habitat reduction, degradation, and fragmentation. One such region is the Ivanpah valley along the California/Nevada border, where development (i.e., solar facilities, recreational utility vehicle use) continues to encroach on the...
Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources - California Basins: Chapter Q, Spatial Data Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources - California Basins: Chapter Q, Spatial Data
This data release provides shapefiles that represent storage assessment units (SAUs) and drilling-density cells in the Central California Coast, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Ventura Basins of California in the United States. The SAU is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources project for the assessment of geologic CO2...

Collection data for rabbit tissues sequenced for metagenomic evaluation of selected tissues.
Argon data for samples from Kenya and Ethiopia Argon data for samples from Kenya and Ethiopia
Ar/Ar data are for 12 samples that record the eruption age of tephra. The geochronology provides time constraints for the ages of tephra and interbedded sediments and fossils from Kenya and Ethiopia. Samples were collected by Erin Dimaggio (Pennsylvania State University), who brought them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis. Samples were analyzed in...
Detrital zircon U-Pb data for reconnaissance characterization of strata across the Intermountain West region of the United States Detrital zircon U-Pb data for reconnaissance characterization of strata across the Intermountain West region of the United States
This document describes sedimentary rock samples and their associated detrital zircon U-Pb data that were collected to support geologic mapping and research initiatives within the context of the Geologic Framework of the Intermountain West Project. The data characterize the age and/or provenance of Neoproterozoic to Miocene strata exposed across the Intermountain West region of the...
Towards an integrated theory of body size distributions, life history and functional traits, and environmental flows in freshwater ecosystems Towards an integrated theory of body size distributions, life history and functional traits, and environmental flows in freshwater ecosystems
Efforts to quantify and explain individual size distributions (ISD) are prominent in ecological research and potentially for applications to management which increasingly consider ecosystem-scale objectives. We use a nation-wide database of individual size measurements for United States stream fishes paired with species’ traits and test for direct and indirect effects of traits, flow...
Model and Data Resources Supporting Water-Quality Modeling of Hydrologic Systems Model and Data Resources Supporting Water-Quality Modeling of Hydrologic Systems
This dataset provides detailed information on availability of model resources (including models and datasets) that support the modeling of six key water-quality constituents (or constituent categories) across the hydrologic system. In addition, resources associated with nine “cross-cutting” topics for modeling water quality are included, with “cross-cutting” defined herein as having...
Fish assemblages and habitat conditions of the Saint Lawrence River and its Tributaries Fish assemblages and habitat conditions of the Saint Lawrence River and its Tributaries
Biodiversity measures provide insight into ecological processes like productivity and ecosystem stability, and rare, vulnerable species are a major component of freshwater biodiversity. This data release provides the data used to address multiple ecological questions about fish and habitat conditions throughout a large section of the St. Lawrence River Valley. More than 140,000 fishes of...
Ungulate Migrations of the Western United States, Volume 5 Ungulate Migrations of the Western United States, Volume 5
This is the data archive for the publication Ungulate Migrations of the Western United States, Volume 5 and includes the collection of GIS map files that are mapped and described in the report. These map files are meant to provide a common spatial representation of the mapped migrations and seasonal ranges. This data release provides the means for ungulate migrations to be mapped and...
Distance matrices and river-network crosswalks for the Geospatial Fabric v1.1 to support data-driven models of water quality in U.S. rivers Distance matrices and river-network crosswalks for the Geospatial Fabric v1.1 to support data-driven models of water quality in U.S. rivers
This data release contains hydrologic network information to support national modeling of water quality in streams and rivers, including distance matrices that represent the spatial relationships among modeled river reaches. These data can be used as inputs to data-driven models that leverage information about spatial proximity to make predictions of water quantity or quality. The...

Topobathymetric elevation model of the causeway breach, Great Salt Lake, Utah (ver. 2.0, January 2026) Topobathymetric elevation model of the causeway breach, Great Salt Lake, Utah (ver. 2.0, January 2026)
A permeable rock-fill causeway was constructed across Great Salt Lake between 1957–1959, dividing the lake into North and South Arms. Several open channels have been constructed to connect the two arms of the lake, with the most recent, informally named the New Breach, being completed in 2016. A berm across the New Breach restricts flow between the North and South Arms and was originally...
