Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data describing the effect of transmitter attachment on the return rate of adult and juvenile Common Terns to a breeding colony Data describing the effect of transmitter attachment on the return rate of adult and juvenile Common Terns to a breeding colony

Previous efforts conducted during the breeding season of 2021 affixed two types of light-weight transmitters to adult and pre-fledgling juvenile Common Terns with leg-loop harnesses made of elastic cord. Subsequent observations of marked birds detected minimal differences in the behavior and nesting success of marked adults, nor were any notable impacts on the growth rate or behavior of...

Food Web Data for Shasta Reservoir, California, 2024-2025 Food Web Data for Shasta Reservoir, California, 2024-2025

This data release includes six child items with data related to bioenergetics and food web ecology in Shasta Reservoir from 2024 to 2025. Child Item 1: "Zooplankton and Water Temperature Data". This included data on zooplankton density and production (zooplankton_density.csv, zoop_length.csv, and daphnia_egg_ratio.csv) as well as water temperature vertical profiles (temperature_data...

PIT Tags Encountered by Klamath Falls Field Station Equipment in the Upper Klamath Basin 1993-2026 (ver. 7.0, April 2026) PIT Tags Encountered by Klamath Falls Field Station Equipment in the Upper Klamath Basin 1993-2026 (ver. 7.0, April 2026)

Data were collected as part of a long-term capture-recapture program to assess the status and dynamics of populations of two long-lived, federally endangered catostomids in Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon and Clear Lake Reservoir, California. Lost River suckers (LRS; Deltistes luxatus) and shortnose suckers (SNS; Chasmistes brevirostris) have been captured and tagged with passive integrated...

Luminescence Data Collected for San Juan River Sediment Geochemical Studies 2023-2024 Luminescence Data Collected for San Juan River Sediment Geochemical Studies 2023-2024

This Data Release summarizes the dating results from sedimentary deposits sampled by the USGS Geologic Hazards Team and analyzed at the USGS Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory. During field seasons 2023 and 2024, these samples were collected as part of the Abandoned Mine Lands Task of the Intermountain West Geologic Framework project, in collaboration with the Navajo Nation and USGS...

Luminescence Data for: The Parguera fault: Possible Quaternary reactivation of a bedrock fault in southwest Puerto Rico Luminescence Data for: The Parguera fault: Possible Quaternary reactivation of a bedrock fault in southwest Puerto Rico

The following report summarizes the dating results from sedimentary deposits discovered during paleoseismic investigations of Puerto Rico. Within this report, we detail the methodology used by the USGS Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory to obtain ages including sample preparation methods, luminescence measurement, equivalent dose determination, and dating-related calculations. We...

Summary of Detection Data for Breeding Common Loons in North-central Minnesota (2025) Summary of Detection Data for Breeding Common Loons in North-central Minnesota (2025)

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill on April 20, 2010, caused extensive injury to natural resources in the Gulf of Mexico, and Gavia immer (common loon) were negatively affected from the spill. The Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Group funded the project Restoration of Common Loons in Minnesota to restore common loons lost to the spill. In 2020–2021, study lakes in a seven-county region in...

Data from Ammonia Toxicity exposures with Threatened, Endangered, and At-Risk Freshwater Mussels with a Co-stressor of an Elevated Temperature or Metal Mixture (ver. 1.1, October 2026) Data from Ammonia Toxicity exposures with Threatened, Endangered, and At-Risk Freshwater Mussels with a Co-stressor of an Elevated Temperature or Metal Mixture (ver. 1.1, October 2026)

This dataset provides water-quality measurements and biological response data from 96-hour acute and 7-day chronic laboratory toxicity tests evaluating the effects of ammonia on juvenile freshwater mussels under multiple environmental stressors. Tests were conducted with Green Floater (Lasmigona subviridis), Neosho Mucket (Lampsilis rafinesqueana), and Fatmucket (Lampsilis siliquoidea)...

Open water control of invasive mussels with benthic mats: comparing mat materials and duration of deployment Open water control of invasive mussels with benthic mats: comparing mat materials and duration of deployment

The data includes 1) results of a preliminary pilot study to evaluate six materials for use as benthic mats in open water control of invasive mussels and 2) a definitive study to evaluate the effects of 10-, 20-, and 30-day treatment with plastic and polyvinyl benthic mats on zebra mussel and native juvenile mussel survival and benthic macroinvertebrate diversity and abundance. The study...

Uncertainty Datasets for the Landsat Burned Area Product Across the Southeastern United States Uncertainty Datasets for the Landsat Burned Area Product Across the Southeastern United States

Characterizing spatial uncertainty in satellite-derived burned area products is essential to accurately represent fire activity and manage fire-prone ecosystems. However, most product evaluations rely on summary statistics, where their use to adjust burned area estimates is unclear. This dataset provides a comprehensive characterization of the spatial and temporal uncertainty in the...

Invasive mussel control with benthic and CO2 mats on lake whitefish spawning reefs in Lake Michigan, July to August, 2025 Invasive mussel control with benthic and CO2 mats on lake whitefish spawning reefs in Lake Michigan, July to August, 2025

The study compared the survival of quagga mussels after a 4 to 5-day treatment with carbon dioxide infusion under a mat and a 30-day treatment under canvas and polyvinyl benthic mats. The study was conducted in Good Harbor Bay, Leelanau County, Michigan. The data include water quality (dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, conductivity) and water chemistry (alkalinity and hardness), quagga...

Data release for invasive silver carp movement rates in the Tennessee, Cumberland, and Ohio Rivers, 2017-2022 Data release for invasive silver carp movement rates in the Tennessee, Cumberland, and Ohio Rivers, 2017-2022

This dataset accompanies the article "Estimating seasonal and monthly movement rates of invasive silver carp with a temporally variable hidden Markov model". The data come from the experimental capture and tagging of invasive silver carp with acoustic transmitters. These transmitters emit signals that are detected and recorded on receivers that are strategically placed above, within, and...
