Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center

At the USGS EROS Center, we study land change and produce land change data products used by researchers, resource managers, and policy makers across the nation and around the world. We also operate the Landsat satellite program with NASA, and maintain the largest civilian collection of images of the Earth’s land surface in existence, including tens of millions of satellite images.

Spatiotemporal patterns and environmental drivers of eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) abundance along the Missouri River, USA

Context: Changes in disturbance regimes, including reductions in flooding and geomorphic dynamism from dam construction and flow regulation, have facilitated invasion by eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana L.), an upland tree species, in the understory of floodplain forests along the Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR).Objectives: Our aim was to determine the spatiotemporal patterns and

Landsat Collection 2 U.S. Analysis Ready Data

Landsat Collection 2 (C2) U.S. Analysis Ready Data (U.S. ARD) are bundles of tiled Landsat data that make the Landsat archive easier to analyze and reduce the amount of time users spend on data processing for time-series analysis. Landsat C2 was released in 2020 and includes improvements over Landsat Collection 1 data, including better geometric accuracy, which increases the number of available C2

Developing General Coastal Vegetation Maps for Coastal Morphodynamic Models

The USGS is collaborating with researchers from other agencies, academia, and industry to predict coastal impacts from hurricanes. The results from this study will better inform coastal morphological change models, which will lead to improved hurricane impact projections.
