Water Data for the Nation (WDFN) is the home for USGS’s modernization of public delivery of water data.

This site is the home for modernized access to USGS water data in machine-readable formats via REST APIs, a common type of web service programs use to search and download data. These services provide USGS water data, ranging from continuous measurements of streamflow to information about individual USGS sites and more.

Water information is fundamental to national and local economic well-being, protection of life and property, and effective management of the Nation’s water resources. The Water Data Blog posts highlight water data developments, data, and applications.

The NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and NJ Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) partnered with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to improve the effectiveness of the existing tide gage early warning network covering coastal communities. Tide elevation readings at each gage are associated with flooding in the surrounding communities.

New Jersey Groundwater Level and Trends provides access to groundwater level data from continuous groundwater wells across New Jersey. Recent water-level measurements for all wells considered are compared to long-term monthly statistics and are classified and visualized according to water-level conditions relative to those statistics.

Online maps provide a view into the groundwater resources of 10 confined aquifers beneath Central and Southern New Jersey. These large-scale water-level surveys completed every 5 years provide a regional overview of groundwater conditions and helps water resource managers identify vulnerabilities to ensure their sustainability for current and future groundwater use.

The Flood-inundation maps for 10 New Jersey counties show areas of potential coastal flooding from wind driven storm surge, allowing users to access real-time tidal elevation data from the USGS New Jersey Tide Network webpage. This information can be used to display flood-inundation maps for a range of tidal elevations to better understand areas of potential flooding.

The NWD presents real-time stream, lake and reservoir, precipitation, and groundwater data from more than 13,500 USGS observation stations across the country.
